My first Box (wondering if I am on track)

Alright, I got 2 alpine Type-Rs, 1241Ds in the mail, as well as a Hifonics B1000D amp.
I want to make a sealed box, I listen to all kinds of music, very little of which is rap, which is why I decided on sealed.

Anyways, on apline's web site they say the recomended sealed box volume is 0.7 – 1.0 cu. ft.

So I would assume I just double this.

For my box I was planning on making the internal dimensions 2' x 1' x 1'
Which is 2cu ft.

My questions are:
is this an apropriate size?
Should I separate the subs within the box? like make an internal wall between them? or should it be one big box? I assumed it would be one big chamber.

I plan on making the box out of melamyne (sp?) I have a nice sheet of it laying around the house. It's basically MDF with a shiny covering.

Make 2 individual chambers. But you will have to take into consideration the dividing wall size now. Plus you have to factor in the displacment of the speaker frame. But from the numbers you gave you are real close. I would have to find out the basket displacment to see how much space it takes up. If you Melamyne is 3/4 inch you will need to add that to your calculations for your dividing wall.

Are you looking for SQ or SPL? If you are looking for high SPL you will need to port the box, and add some more air space.

And if Alpine says that is the size you need then they would know. It sounds about right for the new generation speakers. The new generation speakers are designed for smaller enclosures. OLD SCHOOL was 2 to 3 times that amount.

Alpine says that the front mount displacement for this sub is .128 ft^3.

I wasn't sure if they sealed box volume they listed was factoring in the sub displacement or not.

And I'm really looking for SQ.

As long as you make it somewhere in the ballpark you will be fine. You may want it smaller, like 1.5 cu since you have the power and you are really looking for SQ. Just make one and chances are you will be pretty satisfied assuming it is within the recomended range.
