I have a 2010 Elantra that came with a nav unit (Hyundai Elantra now available with navigation | The Car Tech blog - CNET Reviews (http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13746_7-10454386-48.html)) which I initially thought was awesome and top of the line. It's pretty much been the bane of my existence in my car. I'm looking for a new unit (does not have to have GPS) that lets me enjoy my music better.

Requirements: I would like to keep it under $300.
- Touch Screen
- 7 band equalizer preferred, w/ crossover settings
- Bluetooth capable for hands-free calling (should be able to sync phonebook)
- iPod control (does not need app support as I have a current-gen Nano)
- Works with my steering wheel control (absolute must)
- Anything else is a bonus

My current system: Crappy nav unit from Hyundai
Amp: PA660
Speakers: Dxi650, Dxi6500
Monoamp: PA 1000.1
Sub: IDQ10 D2V3
Box: 1.3cu @32hz via double_07

Edit: I'm sure it is obvious, but I'm very much so a complete noob when it comes to car audio

the steering control is an add on wiring harness usually somewhere between 50 and 100 bux.the deck can be had for 300 alone depending on which deck .may need to go with last years models if you want new

Any recommendations? I am definitely open to suggestions. There is also a local shop (Car-Risma) that I found that I was going to check out tomorrow. I might have a little bit of a better idea tomorrow of what decks I'm actually looking at/for.

Maybe something like this: Amazon.com: Pioneer AVH-X3500BHS 2-DIN Multimedia DVD Receiver with 6.1 WVGA: Car Electronics (http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-AVH-X3500BHS-2-DIN-Multimedia-Receiver/dp/B00A85ANCW/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top)

Not sure if it allows for crossover, but has a nice DAC and equalizer, plus 2-way ipod control. Has option for steering wheel control (another $50), and it has Bluetooth. It has the added bonus of movies, pandora, HD built in, and I do trust Pioneer...

My green is clearly showing, but what do you mean by 4 volt pre out?

At this price point do you think I can find better if I keep looking? What exactly does this pre out mean? I thought my amps powered everything?

Edit: Just looked it up. Basically, cleaner sound. I will keep looking, but I dunno if I can find 4v at this price point with these features?

your amps will power everything ,its the signal that the deck sends to the amps

Amazon.com: Pioneer AVH-P4400BH 2-DIN Multimedia DVD Receiver with 7" Widescreen Touch Panel Display, Built-In Bluetooth, and HD Radio™ Tuner: Electronics (http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-AVH-P4400BH-Multimedia-Widescreen-Bluetooth/dp/B006Y441L0/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1366170360&sr=1-1&keywords=Pioneer+AVH-P4400BH)

4v preout, Still a fair price (but will need to save up a bit more)

Thanks for the help Mylows! I'm glad you're back, I was worried I'd have to do this one without your help, haha.
Amazon warehouse sells the same unit (used) for $40 cheaper, which will cover the cost of the steering wheel add-on. I think I'm pulling the trigger tonight. It has great reviews, and every other unit with the same features is quite a bit more pricey.

Thanks again for the help!

Went with this instead: Amazon.com: Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS Multimedia DVD Receiver with 7" Motorized Touchscreen Display: Car Electronics (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A02KOHM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1WRTEG7T8P2CK)

Newer model, cheaper price. Amazon lists it as 2v, which is a typo. It is 4v.

Didn't do any research but is it a flip? With a touchscreen rigid face is the way to go unless it has a GREAT warranty

It's motorized. I will never use the slot so it might as well be rigid.

Is there anything else that I need? Like a dash install kit, or any additional wiring, etc? So far I ordered just the head unit and the add-on for steering wheel control.

Edit: Since I already have a factory installed nav unit, I don't think I need anything extra, but I'm not really sure about these things.

you'll need the integration install kit as well for your car

Sovelin
04-17-2013, 03:16 PM
I'm not sure what that is. Do you mean this: Amazon.com: Metra 95-7332 Double DIN Installation Kit for 2007-up Hyundai Elantra Vehicles: Car Electronics (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002B591NE/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER)

This: Amazon.com: Metra 70-7301 Radio Wiring Harness for Hyundai/Kia 99-08: Car Electronics (http://www.amazon.com/Metra-70-7301-Wiring-Harness-Hyundai/dp/B0002BEU9E/ref=sr_1_1?rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1366222823&sr=8-1&keywords=wiring+harness+hyundai+elantra)

After this and the dash install kit, am I all set?

Do I need an antenna adapter?

Do I need an antenna adapter?

you may ,i'm not sure ,look up your car on crutchfield it will tell you everything you'll need

Sovelin

Crutchfield seems to be stuck in a loop. Each time I select something it goes back a page and resets. I went ahead and ordered the antenna adapter, the dash adapter, and the wiring harness. If it turns out I don't need one of them, I'll return it. But at least this way I'm prepared.
