I found these two units brand new for almost the same price, the only difference between the two is the Pioneer has HD radio which I cant use due to my location. Ive narrowed it down to these two units and im having a tough time deciding which is better then the other. I guess id like which ever is most compatible with my Android phone and also which unit is easier to bypass for videos while in motion.

HD Radio will probably be coming to your area. Eventually radio stations will stop broadcasting analog signals. Pioneers require a double pulse to bypass the parking brake. If you look around you'll find a bypass to make it very simple. I've installed the X5500BHS but I haven't used one on a regular basis. Kenwood is very good, so I recommend you find a shop that has these units on display. What area of Minnesota are you in?

International Falls.. HD radio may someday make its way up here but this will be the last town to ever get it id be willing to bet. And besides, i think we have three stations that play music and I dont ever listen to the music they play. Anyway, I went to a shop in Bemidij but they didnt have any screens that were relatively close to these two. I havent researched best buy yet but I think they carry both brands? I will be going down to the Twin Cities on the 27th. Maybe ill have to swing into a Best Buy.

I think Best Buy in Fargo has both Kenwood and Pioneer, so it might be worth your time to look there.

My experience with both brands would put them bout on par with one another, I sale both brands and prefer the Kenwoods overall but the Pioneer does have a faster ipod/iphone connection. That's the only draw back with the Kenwoods in my book...

I read on another forum where someone said the same thing about the Kenwood taking alittle longer to connect. Basically what its boiling to is, which ever unit is easiest to get by passed to play video's in motion. I probably will rarely play a dvd but I want to be able to play it while I drive due to the fact my buddy bought a 2012 with a factory dvd player and he cannot do this. So im looking to one up him.

The difficulty level is gonna be about the same for both seeing as how you can buy the bypass units for both on ebay for less than $30.00 I believe....

Hey Bobfig, Wickedgmc..:D

How is the Bluetooth connection between the two? I have an Android phone if that makes a difference..

Not bad it's fast. The only thing that kinda bothers me is when I'm listening to Pandora threw blue tooth it's all good but when I leave to go shopping or what ever and come back turn the truck on and it connects but dosnt start streaming Pandora again. So I have to go to radio, cd, or ipod then back to Pandora to connect. It sounds bad but it's not negative just something to know. Hands free calling is awesome and music streaming not a problem.

When it powers on it searches for your phone and if your blue tooth is off it won't connect. But if you turn it on you have to go threw your phone to connect.

Where'd you buy yours? I'm thinking about getting one off ebay for under $400 and adding a square trade warranty.

I just toyed around with the App Radio 2 I have before I packed it up to send it back to Crutchfield. I absolutely hate that radio. It is crap. Can't believe so many people love it.

Which seller? They're not all trust worthy from some of the reviews I've seen.

True, the bad review I read did say they returned it for their money back.

There both pretty good screens, the Kenwood 790 is excelon so you will get a better factory warranty, while the pioneer uses parrot Bluetooth which is one of the best Bluetooth you can get. Kenwood had them for years but dropped them for the 2013 models. Imo the Kenwood is a better overall screen, quality and proformance.
