What kind of numbers can an SQ sub like this do? I know that's not the point (duh), but I'm just curious. Never heard an SQ sub before (just the JL fathom 112 in our house).

Why wouldn't you just turn the gains down to the proper level for the power you need then?

Rather not risk damaging $1500 sub with a 3500wrms amp.

Don't see how you could damage it if you turned the gains down to match the power of the amp to the RMS of the sub. Just cuz you have a 3500W amp doesn't mean you have to use all 3500W :P

It's a very well constructed neo dynium magnet with what looks to be very adequate soft parts i'd say it's worth the price tag.

because a gain is not a volume or watt control its an input sensitivity
your headunit is a volume control

People run higher powered amps underpowered all the time. I plan on doing it with my RF T2500-1BDCP when it comes in. Cuz the two subs I have right now wont come close to handling 3Kw, so I'll just dump the gain a bit and have no distortion and more efficiency.

sorry cv fan .........dude, an amp can get full power at minimum gain. that will not control distortion or efficiency, its only going to adjust input sensitivity to the headunits output
