I'm building an enclosure for 2 American Bass XFL 15's.
It's going in a Pathfinder powered by an AB VFL-450.1.

Why? Is there a problem with that?
The inside is resined.

no problem with it, it's not going to hurt anything it's just a lot of unneeded work.

I don't like the lines that the kerfing leaves, which is why I don't do more of these.
4 thin coats of bondo and it's pretty smooth now...I think the next one I do, I'm going to apply a piece of laminate over the kerf.

It's almost done...The kerfs look better. All i have to do is round the edges and sand one more time.

int he future, please tape off the port. you went through alot of trouble on the kerf's to make them look pretty. where the paint is the glue will NOT penetrate the wood and addhere like it should. other than that looks great :)

and a little friendly tip for the kerf section, you should have 11 cuts my man for a perfect 90* not 14. that would be why you have gaps in most of the kerfs. its structural integrity will increase once all cuts have no gaps.

I appreciate your tips, however I'm not done with box yet...I did tape off the kerfs today and sprayed them again.
also that little bit of spray paint did not stop the glue from adhering like it should.
with the 14 cuts, I followed the design to the tee that was given to me by BHE Bass Heads Entertainment....I think they know how to design a box.
Structural integrity?...I resined it! ...It's now the strongest part of the box!

Everyone does things differently though.
I have been a Cabinet Maker/CAD Designer since May of 2002...so almost 11 years of building everyday, things that are a lot more complex than a speaker box.

This is one of my personal boxes I still have that I built over a year ago.

It has so many kerf cuts I can't count them...end result was a kerf without very noticeable lines on the outside....glued and bondoed only..no resin.
Beat on this box for like 6 months and the structural integrity was fine.
I'm about to sand this thing up and give somebody a helluva deal on a well built box.

Don't you just love the peanut gallery? Lol! Your enclosures look awesome by the way. I would never criticize someone who is obviously a perfectionist.

Nice work as always in my experiences the number of cuts varies for the kerf depending on how tight the curve is or how large it is but I know you don't need me to tell you that since all your work is top shelf.

I was not trying to be a kerf NAZI or a peanut gallery... unfortunate others take it that way. Like i said it looks great man just i have my preferences as do you ;) i wont post any constructive criticism in the future on your builds any longer sir. cant wait to see the outcome

Don and I were only trying to give some friendly advice as fellow box builders who respect your work and we were genuinely trying to give tips to make your box building easier when it comes to kerfing. I've picked up tips from looking at some of your box builds on here and I was only trying to reciprocate the favor.

10-11 cuts is all that is needed with a standard kerf blade. 14 cuts will be called for when using a thin kerf blade.

As far as bondo for smoothing the kerf lines, it is not needed. I showed Don that some time ago.

Finished the box! It came out better than I thought it would.
The kerf looks awesome, the pics don't do it justice.

From my understanding they were originally purchasing from Bob directly under a different name. Then that changed and now they purchase from a wholesaler at large lot pricing to keep costs down.

From my dealing with Bob over years I would put money on he still sells to them knowingly(same name or not) and an exchange of product won't be hard to get.

It was dark when it happened, or I would have taken a pic. But it was like the whole coil unwound and fell in the motor. smoked a little and got stinky.
They weren't even moving that much. The other sub is fine though.
