Howdy guys,

We are looking for some audio enthusiasts who would be interested in writing a detailed product reviews for some surround sound 5.1 and 2.1 home speaker systems.

The product will be sent to you FREE of charge, we just need your opinion as a user. If you've written product reviews before, either on VMInnovations.com or elsewhere that's a plus :) If you participated in the past, and actually followed-up that's another plus.

Please comment below and let me know if you are interested :)

I'm in. I've recently been tinkering with my HT setup. 5.1 (well 4.1?) in my bedroom, Polk M60 towers, Polk M30 surrounds, custom built enclosures with 2 10" Alpine Type Rs on a Crown XLS1000 for subs. Sounds legit!

I love listening to budget speakers so I can recommend whats best for the money for other broke college kids like myself :D

I have previous experience with reviewing sound equipment. So does whitedragon. I have a review posted of the Pio BS-21LR on Amazon if you'd like a reference. Only thing I don't have is test equipment like o-scopes and such. I'd be interested in reviewing the 2.1

Also, I have numerous reviews drifting around epinions.com (same sn) and my build log here for a review on the JBL MS series comps (also on Sonic Electronix).

Hey Matt,

these would be powered speakers mainly for home multimedia needs.

ok, well i have a spare receiver ~70W per channel @8 ohms(9 channel capable with LFE and full range sub signal). wasnt sure if it was standalone or not. it works better to have a standalone IMO. but id love to give either a shot. currently looking to change up my HT again and move my old HT into the bedroom so this would be great! :-)

do you have any specs on the systems to share?

Typically, a store will setup a room to the advantage of the system they wish to sell the most. What sounds best at the store may not work best in your environment.

I would love to test and write a non-biased review of the equipment VMI is using for this review giveaway.

I'd be interested in trying them on my PC set up. I've been running Logitec 5.1 for years and was thinking about an upgrade a couple months ago. I've held off because of uncertainties over how much better a new set would sound while justifying the cost. I'd also be willing to give them a shot against my home built HT set up as well.

27 years of experience here.

Your doing reviews for home audio? Being a Home audio audiophile, i strive for good performace in my living room. I currently run a harman/velodyne/klipsch refernce setup. I feel i could accuratly give a review of any home audio product since that is where my passions are. Good luck everybody!

I would be interested in either set to test and review. I myself use to have quite a large 5.1 setup in my room and than switched to the High Energy 5.1 to be more conservative. I use to do reviews on movies if that means anything. Haven't really written up any audio equipment reviews but, would love to do so.

If your are in fact still taking any reviewers I'd appreciate your consideration. I'm currently running a custom pieced Polk 5.1 system in my home theater led by a set of Polk RTA-8TL's. I tend to swap out equipment often and enjoy the comparisons when doing so to see what elements have improved and what has downgraded. I've owned sets as small as the small 5 piece pre-bundled kits from best buy to what I own now. I assure you if you give me the opportunity to review, you will get a full breakdown of all positives and negatives and will be reviewed based on performance in music, movies (I own a wide selection of blu rays perfect to test), and video games for the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii (Call of Duty, Halo, Madden, Wii Party, Guitar Hero, etc). My wires are already currently run and its a slow season for work so it is a simple plug and play and a review will come soon. Thanks for your consideration.

Cool!

The blenders: we are actually having a really good deal on them this week ($175 shipped - price will not be lower). Don't expect them to look like new and you'll be amazed w/ the performance. The jars will most likely have scuffs on them, these are re-manufactured by a 3rd party not blendtec.

Click here to see the deals including the ICB3. (http://www.vminnovations.com/MailingLists_Q4hFe/Sweet-Valentine-s-Deals-for-You-VMInnovations.html)

I use mine daily to make a 1,500 calorie shakes (1 cup oatmeal, 2 cups milk, peanut butter, banana, protein). BlendHappy.com is also a good resource.

Bottom line, if you get it and are not happy with it, let me know we'll refund you and offer a free pre-paid return label.

I noticed vminnovations is starting on home theatre business, what i would suggest that nobody has out there is a 5.2 or 7.2 systems, I currently have a 7.3 system, yes with 3 powered subwoofer and i love it. 1 subwoofer set up to me strains out the sub too much, i noticed that the bass is a lot deeper on 2-3 subwoofer setup and you dont have to raise the volume too much. I have an onkyo receiver that does 7.2 Just my 2 cent

It's the EXCS210. The model you posted kinda reminds me of the old Harmon Kardons as far as the satellites go. Mine has some extra features like USB and SD card slots for playing music directly from the unit as well as an adjustable EQ for those inputs. I'm looking forward to putting it through its paces. Kinda hope the USB is compatible directly from the PC, but I'm not counting on it.

It was too small and too slow in his opinion. He prefers big luxury cars with some oomph. His first choice for me was the BMW 335i, Second was the Infiniti G37 lol so, naturally when I ended up getting the tC he was like "da fuqq?"

Yep I really do like the 335s but I didn't want to get anything that I wouldn't feel comfortable covering the expenses on myself. I don't want my parents doing everything for me. Thats why I chose the tC and its also why I chose the Camry. Both cars, I could afford on my own, payments and maintenance both offered the most of what I wanted compared to similar cars in the price range and neither is "flashy" and will give the appearance of "having money".

Pops is still in his 06 S500. He won't let that car go for anything. He has gone to look at the 550s a few times and even worked some good deals but everytime he will just look at his car again and say no thanks. I don't blame him.

You did the right thing - props! 335i's are notorious for blowing through high pressure fuel pumps ($1K expense every few months).

Sweet rides.

got my 5.1 and played with it in my bedroom with only the LF and RF hooked up for a propper 2.1 settup for a day/night. threw it in the livingroom this morning and will have a Transformers 1, 2 and 3 marathon in about an hour to put it through its paces. had to use my own RCA's to make the system work in my livingroom, but thats normal. will post my review tomorrow afternoon/night. :-)

Finally got around to a little listening on some music.

Gonna watch a couple movies before I do the review though.

I hate that I can't get the full 5.1 surround sound as I don't have a preamp with 5.1 preouts so it's essentially just 5 channel stereo, it seems.

Correct me if I'm wrong on that VMI

In order to get full 5.1, I believe it is required to use all of the appropriate inputs in the back of the system. This means your DVD/Blu-Ray player must have a multi-channel analog/RCA outputs. If you try to play 5.1 via 1x RCA/3.5mm cable, like you noted, it'll be a 5 channel stereo + sub.

I'll confirm this with the product manager.

http://www.ecoustics.com/electronics/forum/accessories/475781.jpg

Question to all - how important is it for these systems to have the digital optical audio? Would you as a consumer pay an extra $5 to have that input?

nismos14
02-11-2013, 11:28 AM
I would actually pay more for an optical input rather then output, and/or an HDMI input for digital audio.

Boxing mine up to take it to the office, but I did get some preliminary listening tests in. Kinda bummed the USB doesn't charge nor play m iPhone, but I have alternate methods of getting sound out anyway. It'll take a while for my review, but there will be a thread here for in-depth coverage with the summary posted on VMI and Amazon.

At the moment the USB input only plays media from a flash drive, I'll check with the product manager to see if we can add the functionality to play from a smart phone. You can however use the included 3.5mm cable to play from an iphone/android.

Also, the 5.1 system I'm using charges my android but I haven't tested the iPhone - will report in a few.

Yep, not a big deal. I use a JBL dock at work to charge anyway and it has a 3.5mm out so that's what I'll probably end up using most of the time.

Nice, man. Wasn't so lucky (no pun intended) on my model. But it's not a dealbreaker since the audio out from the 3.5mm is more than decent.

i just wish the cables were longer. if i didnt already have a HT system i would have had to buy 30+ worth or RCAs and extenders to make it work. fortunatly, even if i had to spend the extra it would still be worth it. in 2.1 mode it literally destroyed my Klipsch Promedia 2.1. the klipsch had slightly more definition in the sub range, but i could only tell when i played my pipe organ music(im a sick bastard, i know.)

and as for inputs, HDMI would be nice as would optical. but im pretty happy with whats on it. if i could change a single thing i would make the cabinet a bit bigger and have it tuned lower. my system appeared to have a tuning of ~40hz

Considering my 5.1 didnt have that at all, yes.

I tested mine over the weekened and was happy with it, but only able to use it 2 channel via 3.5mm.. no USB or any other inputs on mine

(I got the white 5.1 set)

I'll write a review sometime this week after more use of it. But so far I am pleased with the SQ and would say its better than any pair of computer speakers that ive ever owned (expensive logitech etc)

It was an iPhone 4S and it seems to try charging but the handshake is wonky. Switches between charging and not charging about three times and gives up. Not a dealbreaker, though. Definitely has great output and wide dispersion in my office. Got a lot of impressed looks by those around me playing pandora off the laptop. Very laid back system, too.

Update on the one I had.. I set it up in my nephew's room, he'll probably eventually use it in his dorm when he goes to college, but he was using a logitech 2.1 system currently which he loved. I listened to it and it sounded pretty good. I hadn't listened to the VM audio setup for a little while, so I really wanted to see how it was gonna sound.... This setup REALLY impressed him, it blew away the logitech big time even in 2.1 mode. The little sub in it really does move a lot of air! He's a happy camper, I said he could use it indefinitely and he's super happy with it! Thanks again VM!
