So I'm looking to do a dorm room set up. I was thinking a pair of bookshelf speakers, stereo reciever, and a sub. If you think this isnt the way to go, just let me know what you think I should do.

- Around $300 for the pair of speakers

- Not sure on the cost of the reciever, but I want to be able to use my iPod touch 5th gen and computer. Preferably something that can bypass the internal DAC of the devices

- Sub around 300wrms, not too expensive

Other option was just to get a powered cabinet....

So what do you think?

Check out partsexpress.com and look at their receivers, speakers and subs. Especially the Dayton stuff. Good home audio subs for cheap!

It's cool, it's hard to get a lot of HT advice on here because not many people know HT as well as they do CA. You could probably do some research on brands yourself, just find some receivers/speakers in the price range you want, and then search around the forums for some info.

Yamaha Makes good HT equipment. I would look into them, just get a good 5.1 surround sound reciever..i believe you can find some good setups for around 3-400
