View Full Version : Spooney's Ninja Box Build

Throwing together an enclosure that will house a Sundown Audio SA-15. I also have a JBL GTi 15 that I plan on swapping in at some point as well. The box is designed around the Sundown as that will most likely be in there the majority of the time but the JBL should do real nice in this enclosure also .
Box is going to be approximately 3.5 cu ft tuned to 32 hz . Ports will be twin 4 inch aeros and the enclosure is being built out of mdf. Really wanted some decent plywood but I couldn't bring myself to spend over 40 bucks on one sheet of wood so I will break my back loading this bastard in and out of the car to save 10 bucks LOL.
Enough BS.........onto some pics

Original bracing idea:
http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv10/jsb4251981/1356647759.jpg
Had to scrap it though. It would interfere with the ports.
New brace whipped up on the fly with more to come:

That's the extent of my progress for today. Not much left. Still need to cut sub/port holes , screw on the back, silicone the inside edges, and sand it. Not sure how or if I will cover the enclosure. Going to give it a good listen before I drop money into carpet/paint. If I do anything it will most likely be carpet. I will try to get some pics of the subs tomorrow too.

Probably going to add a brace top to bottom as well at some point. Waiting for the glue to dry a little before I put the back on and sand it up. Hoping to be done today minus the covering which I think will be boring old carpet

Looks good! Why are you running the SA the majority of the time though? I'd be running that JBL all day everyday! SQL goodness....

I guess I am thinking it will be a bit louder than the JBL while still sounding decent. Who knows though the JBL may just win me over.

Sanded as much as I care to sand it. Will be carpeted in the end. Still looks ok though I think:
http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv10/jsb4251981/1356726966.jpg
Just need to let it dry a bit and throw the ports and the sub in and let it rip. No terminal cup on hand at the moment so I think I will go ghetto style and run the wire out of the port until I get some carpet and a terminal around. All in all i'm happy with how the construction went. Just hoping she sounds as good as it looks.

Thanks. Been doing this for a long time but never had more than basic tools to get the job done. I would like to invest in a router and good table saw someday and really get crazy

Too **** late to give it a listen other than at low volume . I'm liking what I heard though even with the volume down. Hoping to turn it loose first thing in the morning. If she sounds good which I'm sure it will I am going to order carpet tomorrow. I can always adjust the ports a bit too if I need to fine tune it some.

Looking at my own pics I am already thinking of altering the box a bit. If I can decide on what sub is going to stay in the box I may add a second baffle and flush mount the sub.

Just gave it a quick full tilt listen and it sounds fantastic! Its hitting all the notes I was hoping for. Gotta get some carpet ordered up now. JBL is sounding **** good in its old age.

No need for them fancy tools if you know what you're doing... but they do make it easier.

Turned out real nice and clean! It must sound that way as well!
No matter how hard I try, I can never get my cuts that clean, but that's just me. I'd need a table saw and router to get close to an outcome like that.
