I have a 05 impala and my custom 18 by psi. Im building a box thats 34wx30dx14.5t. 6.9 cu ft. Sub up slot port to the rear of the car. Im wondering what the best way to brace the box is and in what locstions. My amps change alot but ill be giving it between 2500 and 3k rms daily application. Any extra input on this would be great.

Bracing depends on the design of the enclosure. Putting it where it is needed, but not in the way of anything or causing issues with the design itself. I would try to side fire the port though, will likely have a better response.

Here's the best info for you run a pair of 12's

Side port wouldnt have much room to breathe. And ive been wanting to trade the sub for smaller subs.

There should be a rather large area at the back of the trunk to load the port off of, unless you have batteries or other things in the corners.

You shouldn't have that hard of a time trade, but then again this is the slower time of year for audio sales/trades.

Yea i have audiocontrols. 3 amps 3 batteries also in tru.k. Have no room

You only have 6.9 cubes gross, seems kinda small for an 18

I didn't even notice that. Are you thinking of using precision ports?

Sub needs 6cu box at 30/32 hz according to psi.

Sub needs 6cu box at 30/32 hz according to psi.

Your port and sub displacement will take that volume down to around 4.75-5ft3 would be my estimation.

Sub needs 6cu box at 30/32 hz according to psi.

After displacements, bracing, and port volume, that number will more than likely be below 6 cubes

Also if you plan to double baffle and whatnot..

Just say eff the back seats and put a big *** box there lol

IF you have spare tire slot, possibly put batts ect in there to save some space?

:wow: I cannot comprehend this.

You meant 21's, not 12's, right?

Build the box inside the trunk and face sub and port forward. I really like mine like that in my civic, but i had an 8" aero firing sideways into a front firing slot.

He does not have the room required to even run one sub unless he builds in the trunk.

2 15s arent going to work if you cant get a nice single 18 box in there.

If I was still in STL I would be down to help out.

If you want to take a road trip swing on down lol.

2 12s would be better, a large aeroport would save some room, i built an 18 with psi parts and afterwards decided I didnt want it in my trunk, had the box planned out 7 cubes net but didnt want to lose all my space and cover up my spare

I'm just wondering... is the only benefit to an aeroport that it saves space?

Nice video of impala. These cars are hard to get over a 150db in from trunk.

no effin way would I ever recommend to anyone to put an 18" sub in the trunk of an Impala. I've tried and even built a box in the trunk. It is not optimal by a long shot. 2 12"s or a single 15" will be much happier in that space and a lot easier for you.

Yea i think im just gonna buy 2 12 baskets and start over.

I'm not saying it's impossible but it's a lot more work than I'd want to do again.

What if i use a aero port firing threw back seat or up inbetween x9s. Im thinking i can have sub and port in car if i raise my x9s.

Sounds like he needs a bigger car. That's what I might end up doing. No way I can put in a bigger dual 15" sealed enclosure in my Intrepid, so it's time to get a small SUV and take out the back seats. :2thumbs:

If I ever get into actually comping... I'll do 3 12" in the trunk of my Impala... complete blow through the rear deck...
and 150 has been done multi times out of trunks btw..

OP where in IL you located? I did an 05 or 06 a few years ago with 2 AQ 12's and 2 3500's. Was a daily tuned box with small port area since owner played all Decaf crap. Burped a 49.7 so it had 50+ potential with a box more geared for SPL.

I know the opening into the cabin was small and partially blocked the subs/port, but owner wouldn't let me cut out the metal.

I'm near Six Flags....
