I have a hdc3 12 in a two and half ported at 33. im running it with two aq 1200 strapped at 2200 watts daily. im thinking the box should be around 3 and half at 33. I don't like how the sub sounds on higher notes. what do u guys think?

Why do you think making the box larger will make the higher notes sound better? What don't you like about the sound?

Over power=smaller boxes

I just started this as a new hobby. im trying to understand how everything works. amps, box rise, the whole nine yards. I was thinking that if the box is not the right size that it would not produce the right sound. I have a million questions but im not sure where to go on this site to start asking. thanks for replying bro.

No if u throw a ton of power to a sub in a huge box ur woofer will lose control ..and for a easy term ..sub will get sloppy and loose

We still haven't heard what exactly is wrong with the current box, and how you want the sound to be different. Can you explain a little more?

2.5@33 should be good for that sub...is it a custom box or prefab?? might have amp gain and/or lpf set incorectly

when I was 16 I had 2 jl w6 12 and they sounded a lot different then my aq does. they were in a sealed box. so im using that as my comparison. there is nothing wrong with the box I just wasn't sure if its big enough for the power im putting on the sub. the aq plays notes in the upper htz funny. from 30 to 50 hz it sounds great but above that it doesn't sound right to me. so my thought is maybe it is the box that was causing the issue.

Who built the box?? and u cant compare to old setup in anyway..yes thats the right size box and tuning for that sub..what do you have lpf set on amp?

Set the lpf to 100 and cross it at 80 on the hu..then set subsonic to 25 ..do u have gain all the way up ? how did u set gains? Any bass boost on amp?

Well W6's are a lower distortion driver. It could be you just don't like the sound of the AQ's. Also, some adjustments to your amp could solve this. It's hard to say without actually knowing what you mean by they sound funny.

its a custom made box. ill be honest I don't know how to set the gain properly. the amps are strapped and the guy at the audio shop set them because I don't know how. what should the low pass be set for. this set up is in a 2008 company chevy express work truck so the box sits in between the drive and passenger seat. ive gone to several audio shops around me and they all say different things. so I don't know who to believe. im not sure if any of them know wtf they are doing. example my headlights were dimming and one place told me I needed a red top when I needed the big three. I wanted to get a ho alt and another place said no one uses those anymore. so here I am stuck between a rock and a hard place.

its like the high notes don't exist. u can barely feel or hear them.

Low pass should be at around 100 ..location of the box could be the isue too

no bass boost. I would have to go in my truck and see what everything is set on because I didn't set it up. im thinking about going obsidian or that other new brand that sundown came out with.

That's much more helpful, and definitely shouldn't be an issue with the hdc3's. It seems NASTY08IMPALA is all over this.

Could you get the specs of the enclosure? Like the H x W x D and what thickness of wood. Also the size of the port opening ( h x w) and the length of it.

We can tell you from that how the enclosure is setup. If you can get pics of your settings on the amp we can try and help walk you though that as well.

If you are getting a really good low end but not much from anything around 40hz then that is most likely a setting issue or enclosure issue though.

what about port area? what are u using for a port? If a slot is being used u should have around 15 sq. inch/ cu ft so if your slot is 15" it should be 2.5" wide.

I'm up near Six Flags and have done a LOT of HDC set ups if you want to stop up sometime I'd be willing to look at the enclosure and HU/amp settings.

And please tell me that shockwave didn't do your box....
