newbie question

Hey all,
i'm new to the board...i have a little experience with car audio, but im sure not like some of the people on here.......

About 5 years ago i had a 92 cavalier w/ a premier 8500 deck.......fosgate (pre-best buy era) 3.5's and 6x9's....w/ punch XLC 12's (2).......powered by a crossfire 200x2 and the mid's n hi's powered by c-fire 100x2.....sounded pretty good.....

i just picked up a 99 grand am GT.....im gettin my alarm installed obn wednesday....compustar two-way SS

but back to the music.....im going to be getting the new Alpine 9835 i think it is....it was b/t that and the new clarion touch screen deck....i think im gunna go w/ alpine....but besides that i was thinking about going w/ JL for all my speakers/amps........ xr 5.25's and vr 6x9's powered by a 300x4 and then get the 500x1 powered to a w6 v. 2.........im thinkin that will be nice crisp sound that has some good thump.....im just curious if i can match quality or even better it for the price....im not up on the new stuff like i used to be....i was also looking into alpine componenets/sub's, kicker, and precision power.........any help/advice is greatly appreciated

I'm doing a new system for a just purchased car myself, so I have been doing a lot of research lately (cuz like you I've been "away" for awhile). I can't help you much in the amp department yet, but for speakers you can't beat CDT Audio (http://www.cdtaudio.com/car_audio.htm) components for price/performance ratio. Their CL-61a (http://www.thezeb.com/detail.aspx?ID=1083)'s are an outstanding buy, as are their higher end HD-62cf (http://www.thezeb.com/detail.aspx?ID=6282)'s.

JL is not my choice in audio. Only because they are WAY to expensive. They make great products do not get me wrong, but I think my Concept D series amp is just as good. I like MB quartz for my mids and highs. And Eclipse Titanium, or Alum for my subs.

i have been doing some research and have found that i really dont think i want to go w/ the jl components....ive been looking at either eclipse or alpine type x........for sub's im either gunna go w/ w6, eclipse titanium, or wait for the alpine type x to come out and hear it
