my room is tiny. its about 17' by 10'. is a 120 watt powered subwoofer enough to get the job done or should i get an extrnal amp and run a subwoofer in a custom box? im looking for sq here not to shake the house.

I think... for sq, sub in custom box with plate amp.
My Logitech Z623 does a really good job in a 8x11. Esp. since its a 2.1 system

yea, a plate amp from Parts Express (even the 240W version is only $120) does wonders. SQ comes from the subwoofer selection/enclosure and placement in the room.

my infinity entra sub is only a 10 and 100 watts fills a 15x15 room nicely for me but placement is key imo

yes custom build a sub system. you won't regret it. for even more power, get a Mixer,31band single channel eq and a pro audio amp and you'll have a rocking setup, i love mine.
