So i have now decided to throw up a build log as i am currently going thru a rebuild process. There is going to be a lot of work to this Daily Driver and i do not get much time to mess around with it so it will be a low build. Also since this is going to be my first large scale build i will be taking my time with it anyway. Not to mention i do not have much experience just picking up on what i get from this and other forums. I did mess around with fiberglass a little so i have little knowledge of it also. Everything is going to be double to triple checked another thing that will take time. Anyway here is a few things that were in the truck and a list of things that will be in the rebuild.

So i didn't get much done just removed subs and the box. Maybe if i have time i will mount the alt and the the xs 5100r tomorrow.

Here you see a mess with my aq2200d and kicker zx650.4. They are going to sit in there for a little while. They are screwed down so they won't move.

This looks like it will be a SOLID setup. Keep up the progress and pics! Are you going to be running a battery isolator?

KenC210

No isolator do not really plan on running this with the car off anyway.

So i have not be able to get much done yet but i did however cut out the baffle rings for the 6.5 and tweeters. My only tools i had to cut them were a jig saw, i was going to buy a router attachment for my dremel but when i went to lowes and home depot both said that item was an online purchase only. So i said forget it and went ahead and used the jig saw.. So i did a 104.5mm diameter for the inner cut and a 106.9mm diameter for the outer cut for the 6.5. On the tweeters i did a 73mm diameter on the inner cut and a 99mm diameter on the outer cut. So onto some progress pics. I know it a little progress but some none the less. You will see on the tweeter baffle i had to notch out a small piece for the spade terminals.

I will not be putting them all in the door. a 6.5 in the kick a 6.5 and a 8 in the door and the tweeter in a pillar.

Just a small update... I got the pillars set with the tweeter baffles and all i need to do is wrap, resin, fill, sand and fill some more and a lot of sanding. Would have wrapped but got a lot of planning for the weekend. Now some pics...

Those tweets look like they are going to be blaring loud. Least regular tweets would be brighter aim that direct I can only imagine what super tweets would sound like

I've never really used pro audio as I like my mids crossed at 63or80 hertz and I like them to play lower than pro mids are designed for. But then again I don't have a lot of experience with them and I don't know if they can play at least to 80hz. I really want to try the sundown neo pros but I'm afraid they won't play as low as I want. Any input on this?

KenC210
10-25-2012, 06:54 PM
They may be really loud so i will most likely keep the gains pretty low on the tweets. As for my pa mids they will not be crossed that low maybe around 300hz and up, i am going to have a midbass woofer in there to make up for what the pa mids cant. I also don't have any experience with pro audio but i am giving it a shot here, just been doing a lot of reading.

So i been a little busy during the week and could do much but i started again yesterday and got some work done to the tweeter pods. Most of it was bondo and a lot of sanding. A few update pics.

A test fit before bondo...

http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/n513/kenc210tx/2007%20Ford%20Escape%20Rebuild/IMG_0354_zps0c794e71.jpg

Start of the bondo and sanding process...

http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/n513/kenc210tx/2007%20Ford%20Escape%20Rebuild/IMG_0355_zps02bcd03c.jpg

http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/n513/kenc210tx/2007%20Ford%20Escape%20Rebuild/IMG_0356_zps8b15e681.jpg

After a hours of sanding and bondo...

http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/n513/kenc210tx/2007%20Ford%20Escape%20Rebuild/IMG_0382_zpsb70dacb3.jpg

http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/n513/kenc210tx/2007%20Ford%20Escape%20Rebuild/IMG_0383_zpsb2b2b3d3.jpg

So i have a problem... As you can see in pic below the bondo keeps coming up from the a pillar. I thought that the primer/filler would fill it in and i wouldn't see much issues, but i dont like the way it is. Any ideas that i could do to make this a bit better.

I have never done it but i have seen people drill a bunch of little holes for the bondo to go into so it holds on better

I also got started on the doors. A little bit at a time.

A before shot of the door

If you compare to the before pic you will see what i am going to be relocating the pocket area to the rear part of the door.

So i started to strip out everything all old wires remove the old speakers and start cleaning everything up so i could start putting deadener in.

My giant mess of wires that i have to take out. everything is zip tied and wrapped with electrical tape. Also all wires were soldered and shrink wrapped.

After i got the wires cleaned up and taken out i started to get test fitting the doors just to make sure they will fit still with the new speakers in. As you can see i needed to do some modified work here to make some clearance for the 6.5 and some more clearance for the pocket i relocated.

The Pocket area.

This is before I cut the area to fit the pocket. I forgot to get the after shot of the cut for the pocket. I could get a shot of it later but there is now deadener on it.

Running the speaker wires, Getting them zip tied and an taped up

Another little project i am working on for the constant and turn on wires to be wired to some switches to turn on everything i need. Screens, Fans, or any other accessories.

So I did quite a bit a work today. I didn't get much pictures of the process because my camera battery was dead, used it at my daughters basket ball game. I also did have my phone because it needed to be charged... Plus i got into work mode i didn't ever get the cameras during the process... Anyway here are some pics i did manage to get.

Here you see i cleaned up all my speaker wires... Also showing where the are routed... For the most part i just followed factory wires and zip tied...

So i wanted to hear how the speakers sounded so i just set in my doors to get them playing. I did clean up all the wiring some more and set in the carpet a few other things. The vids will be up once finished loading.

Here also i got my shift lever area primed up and ready to coat black.

So its been a while since i updated this. So i have started on the sub box. After i get that in i should be able to get going on the rest of the stuff. I am looking at some material to wrap my doors, trying to get as close to matching as possible. Once i get that i should be good on the rest of the build. So here we go with the box progress.

The wood is all cut.

In between coats i got the wood filler sanded down on the screw holes on the box, (well my daughter did most the sanding). 3yrs old today and still able to put in work. I still had to touch it up but we got it done.

So just a small update of the work i got done....

Started with an amp rack and it is going attach to the box...

Here you see that there is a little air space on the bottom to help let them breath a little...

http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/n513/kenc210tx/2007%20Ford%20Escape%20Rebuild/2013-01-27175557_zps3dbb72cd.jpg

This is a shot of it from the top...

http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/n513/kenc210tx/2007%20Ford%20Escape%20Rebuild/2013-01-27175526_zps10e6d39e.jpg

A shot of it put into the truck...

Here you see around the box it is going to be attached to the box surrounding the amps. I am going to have it covered and cut out a portion of it so you could see the AQ of all the amps.

Alright so i decided it was time for me to get these to start playing... So i did just that got this thing playing, i know i still have a lot of work to get done. So on to the pics.

Since i was going to start getting the subs playing i went ahead and opened the other box today and that contained the DC XL. To my surprise i seen a lanyard in there with a sticker. Was pretty excited about that as i was going to be buying a lanyard.

Well i started to get all the wiring done for the subs.

Using these to wire the subs to the correct ohm i need. I had them just laying around so i decided to use them.

Got everything wired up, yes i know they need to get cleaned up. Also the subs in

Just a little disappointment. I had the holes cut out good but i still seemed to have some of the material lift up and peel away.

So i will try to get vids up tomorrow. But first i must say this seems a lot louder than my previous setup. They are more vicious and do really get down. Although my overall satisfaction was down a little as i thought i would achieve a hair trick... No big deal there by any means as i do get some movement of hair and a good shirt trick. I am pretty sure it has a lot to do with the box and may play around with different tracks. Aside from hair tricks i am very happen with the setup.
