View Full Version : If this don't work I give up
I have never tried a purpose built loud box. I always thought I could get good numbers with a daily box, that hasnt worked out.
We will see this weekend if my vision works out. A tick over 3 cubes net with a 7 inch aero tuned at 39hz. I guess it's going to be real peaky but I don't care anymore.
38.47 square inches of port area. 12.63 per cube.
Wish me luck

iirc hispls ; made one that was tuned to 40, and wasn't thrilled about the fact it had a fairly flat response. he was shooting for a bit more of a "one-note-wonder"....

Just build a burp box. Increase port area and raise tuning.
This is the classic, "You can not have your cake and eat it too.." situation.

If you want that, then a simple "quick" enclosure won't cut it. You need buy 10-15 sheets of wood and get building/testing/rebuilding/testing and keep repeating and make sure to take very clear notes. Personally, I write on each enclosure I test with in a single car so I can know exactly what everything did.
My notes normally contain...
Year/Make/Model
What sub
How much power(actual clamp)
SPL
How it sounded
Any notes I felt needed to be wrote for a later date..like box position or loading issues...or what ever.

I get it but it's not simple or quick. You know how many boxes ive been through. I found out a few things along the way. Peak is always in the mid high 40s no matter where I tune after the deadener. Subs like to be up and toward the rear, port likes to be center. That's all I got right now

port area alterations... internal or external ports..
subs/port up with it sealed off around the box(basic beauty panel just more rigid)....
Some times the stupidest things make the biggest differences.

I know what everybody is saying. Thats why I decided to copy a proven design. I had to go a bit wider to give the motors clearance but the specs are almost identical. We also are doing it flush mount

Well, if I remember correctly, my enclosure was 36.5 x 17.5 x 22 and around 5.8-5.9 cu ft net and tuned to around 32-33 hz. Had a 10" diameter port that was 26.5 inches long. Almost the whole back end of my trunk was foamed up. lol

Really depends on the sub(s) how much peak you'll get by tuning how high. Some measurements show big box actually tunes @ 36hz with subs inverted and box in place. Lot of loading up and around the rear hatch I think.
I wouldn't be scared to tune @ 45-48hz trying to chase numbers.
