Hey guys,

Been awhile since I stopped by, but I need some help. I'm running an Eclipse 8051 through some US Acoustics amps (100w, 50w, 150w resp.), front Diamond Audios, rear Eclipses and an old school Pioneer Sub. Great setup for my first major install, and after a few tweaks and one overtaxed amp... the system has been flawlessly entertaining me for over 3 years- not a single problem.

About a week ago I got in the car, hit the power button and...... nada, zip, zilch.

No Power, lights or display, hmmm. Turned off ignition. Restarted car. Still nothin'. After several attempts I pulled the unit and man, the right rear of the head was HOT< HOT> HOT!! I mean burned my FINGERS hot. And I hadn't had the ignition on for at least 15 minutes! Again, the Eclipse had not even powered on. Strange. Anyway, I have 12v to the unit at yellow, red and wh/bl, thru chassis ground, all connections seemed normal so I assumed the worst and sent it to United Radio for repair.

They call me and tell me they cannot reproduce the "No Power" problem. Say it works fine. WTH?? Man oh man, all I need is to hook this thing back up and have it crap out again. Should I have tried the reset button on the front or? Why so damned hot with no apparent power-up? Could a shorted/bad speaker cause this? Yikes. I checked all power cables and leads, harness connections, terminals at the amps, etc. but everything was tight and buttoned up like the day I finished the install, no changes or tinkering.

The unit is coming back tomorrow and I need a short (or long) list of primary items to check before I reinstall. I'm going to check for proper grounds all around, but I can't think of much else. I WAS cleaning and refitting the battery cables several days earlier. A few light sparks. Checked, all fuses ok. The stereo wasn't even on. I'm just throwing out anything I can think of cause I'm flummoxed here. Thanks for any help!!

I remember now that I WAS cleaning and refitting the battery cables several days earlier with both pos and neg terminals attached at the same time. Got a few sparks here and there, but no big deal, so I thought. The stereo wasn't even on. I'm just throwing out anything I can think of cause I'm flummoxed here. Thanks for any help!!
