Ok so I got my maro metered today with just my American bass VFL Exterme 12" wired to 4ohms on my soundstream xxx6500d was seeing roughly 1400-1600 I'd say. Box is about 2.5ish cubic feet with a port tuned to 34hz, I was able to hit 138 flat I was kinda disappointed but thought about it and for the first time being metered it wasn't truly that bad. Car was sealed and mic on dash. Port faciing up sub facing up. What do you guys think? Any adivce on possibly new set up for better scores? I'll be getting 2 SSA Zcons in a week waiting for SSA to switch manufactures so I can get the recline kit needed.

Good score but it seems a little low, what freq was it at? Was it on music or a tone?

This was on music 6' 7' hate lil Wayne but Gota say that song hammers out them notes. Test tones didn't get me to far though but that's probably cause I was fuckin with the setting while the tones played and you guys think that's a good score? I was honestly disappointed. I really hope my 2 Zcons do a lot better than that. But there box will be facing forward port forward. If my **** hatch wasnt so confusing I'd be able to build a big *** box back there.

So question will I see better number with my port and subs facing forward? Plus the fact that I'll be running around 5000watts lol

Also does anyone know what class I'd be in for idbl and bass boxing? Here's my setup
stock batt upfront and a batcap 4000 in the back, Mid/ highs amp and subamp, then seats folded down with 1 12" subwoofer for now. Soon to be 2 there's a comp on Sunday I'm thinking about going to but don't want to enter if Ill be crushed hahaha

sub up port back or sub foward port back. maybe off set. port on passenger rear corner. Not a bad score sealed.

sub close to the driver port loading off the hatch.

138 sealed ?

and next time find your peak freq and burp it.

For a hatch, when possible sub and port facing back being close together does better than up in mine. Ideally having sub up port to driver side is best with a 6db increase. Depends on Vehicle. Gotta google and see how well others are doing with various styles

its a start biggest thing to work on is ur box. with a hatch and 1600rms and 1 12 should be in the mid 40s no problem after lil work. we all start somewhere :)

Did you only try sealed up?
My sealed trunk score isnt much higher right now, but mines at about 28hz.

subs up port back. every hatch including my own hits higher that way unless your running aero. with that set up, i think you should be hitting a little higher than what you were tbh.

you have an suv. he has an angled hatch. subs up port back for spl are thee bomb. been proven. but lately i have had some locals that i did a box for (1999 integra) subs up port up subs were up and close to the driver. port was in the rearest part (slot) facing upwards. its still under construction right now mut so far its doing very nice. we should have it at finals this year.

Thing is, my box was actually built for a 2000's tiburon with subs up port back. I made some adjustments to the port when I put it in my truck. That box was hitting 147-149 on music in that tiburon.

tiburon has less angle on the glass. it takes alot to know what is better for what car/person im just voicing what ive been doing. the sub up port back is getting old :o

I guess a lot of it has to do with the acoustics and tuning of the vehicle. Best thing to really do I guess is just test and tune in all ways and see what works best

My hatch hates subs up, port rear. It likes subs and port up but it has to be all the way to the back and sealed off so the presure dont shot straight down into a pocket. Really a PITA.

ok u have 2 choices here u could build the box sub up port up and fire off the glass as stated above or i have seen a so to speak wall behind the rear seats and the subs and port firing forward. either setup in bassboxing will put u in featherwieght class. however when it comes to idbl doing the sub up port up box will put u in stock hatch but doin the half wall (so to speak) it will put u in stock pro. if i can make a suggestion on the sub up port up box i would try a port plug with different size and lengths aero ports and i would test the lengths and get them close to the hatch that way u build some sick compression because that is a long way to the meter!!!

also if u are gonna burp u are only allowed 2 runs of 0 gauge and 1 batt in the back. i would suggest using 1 run of 0 gauge for pos and neg and run additional grounds to the back batt also what 5k are u gonna be using?

BIGJEFF64
06-22-2012, 10:46 AM
also if u intend on doin bassboxing u better be able to burp a 53+ on that setup since the INAC champ ended doin a 150.5 avg so u need to be real loud and he is on 2 12's in an exploder.

IDBL stock hatch which was introduced this year the SBN winner did a 150.8 but u better believe that will be beat this year

all in all u need to be burping 53's to be a contender and that is on a national level

Whoa lots of comments. Ok to start since this is the once that stuck out most I only have one run of 0 gauge to my rear. A wall isn't really an option for me I don't exactly have room in my rear hatch to work with I take my TTops down a lot which is why I chose the back seats. And this Is on music still I haven't tried a burp I don't know what frequency to use yet

ok so it looks like ull be running stock hatch in IDBL and still featherweight bassboxing!!! i would recommend eventually run another run of 1/0 and since that car is a unibody i would probably do a neg run. i would test with aero ports and u would need to make a port plug cuz ur gonna wanna have a pretty high freq for burp (mid 50's) and then ur regular freq for bass boxing. Just giving u some ideas

You will never get a really impessive score if you
1. don't own a meter
2. don't plan to build and test a few boxes
3. are willing to sacrifice some low extension and tune high.

The more impotant question is do you like the way it sounds? If you listen to it and it puts a smile on your face you did it right.

This. If you wanna make your setup meter friendly, at least see if you can rent a meter or something and play around with different port setups. I.e. have it be a removable port for your daily and then have another port with more port area tuned around the mid 40's or so (will depend on your vehicle). Not 100% ideal as the box volume may want to be adjusted but it will get you a better score than what you're doing right now.

After seeing a 1986 honda civic pount out a 151.x with a couple of twelves and a big port at slamology, I would suggest what he did.

http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg144/snoopdan2/151trunk.jpg

the twelves are off to the sides of the box and in the middle he had a 10" port about 15" long. Oh, and that pic was taken by me about 3 minutes before this won loudest trunk vehicle in the world at Slamology.

Was that title just for the Slamology event? I have seen a vid of a 8th gen civic doing 155s out of the trunk on music. And I thought I heard there was someone doing 157s out of the trunk as well that was the worlds loudest trunk.

If ur talking about building ur box down there and the subs firing against the window then yes stuff the rear well

REDz28
06-22-2012, 08:55 PM
That's what I'm looking at doing. I'll only be able to get like 1.5 ish cubic feet per sub I was told to try a bandpass but I don't even know how to fit that or design it. But imthinking subs facing hatch. Port facing hatch. But I will be trying sub facing forward port forward on my rear seats folded down just to try it

BIGJEFF64
06-23-2012, 02:03 AM
Well ur tuning will be so high that ur not gonna get and decent response the normal tuning area. If done right and tuned right u should do an awesome spl number but it will sound bad on music.

I thought those subs like and 3 cube before sub and port displacements each. For instance the featherweight bassboxing champ has 2 dc level 5 12 on a dc7.5k in a 3 cube iirc with 3 8" ports out the back in a blazer he bassboxes using welcome to the world from TI and it's not close to his peak.

Unfortunately ur kinda stuck with either a box that sits in the wheel well or 1 that sits behind the rear seats but option 2 wouldnt be the best because u would have to seal everything behind off which would be a wall so I'm lost there for ya

came in first place yesterday for advanced no wall 1 seeing as i had my box on my back seats which isnt a cargo area i guess. so now its off to design a box either big enough to block most of the air from traveling behind the box into the hatch or a box that will be on the rear hatch there isnt a bunch of room which is screwing me over
