View Full Version : anyone ever tested spl difference for varying radius in their flares?

title pretty much says it. wondering if anyone has tested a measurable spl difference by varying the radius of their flares. i have custom flares made, and obviously shorter radius are much cheaper, and also allow for areas where mounting diameter needs to be smaller since the outer edge is usually less as well. these applications would still be flared inside and out.

Yes. They tested it in the loudspeaker cookbook. As far as they tested, a larger flare yielded better results. As with anything there will be diminishing returns.

ill look around google and see if theres an excerpt somewhere on that. i dont have any of their books. i know that a flare yields higher than non flare, just didnt know what differences came from radius variance. even the lowest radius ones we get still look better than psp to me. the large radius ones are monsters.
