Item(s) for Sale: ^^^

Item(s) Description/Condition: Really hate to let this beautiful woofer go. Unfortunately I need the money. Not one scratch or scuff on this sub. I had it powered by a MBQ 1500.1D at 2 ohms for about 3 weeks then took it out. Never did I push this sub hard or give it a clipped signal. If you know these beasts, they are SQ and low end monsters. She weighs about 60 pounds. This is the second TI I have owned and I have yet to be let down by it's sound quality and loudness.

Price: 225 plus shipping. Shipping is going to be a pain, but I'll make sure she is nice and safe. Only trades I will accept are ipads(or other tablets), ipod touches and iphones. That is it. I also have a MBQ ONYX 1500.1D for sale also that I can add for a deal.

Shipping and Miscellaneous Item Information: UPS or USPS.

Not the titaniums. There were different coil setups for the basic aluminum versions though.

Actual T/S p's on the 91XX show an Re = 6.2342 ohms, which would be 3.12 per coil. They were wound optimally for the gap, which came out to d3

Test a few on your own. I have tested around 15-20 or so by now.

Also lets address this before there are more posts that deal with the ohm of voice coils.

1. The factory that builds the coils has a range that they are allowed to be with in. It is more then most think as well..almost .5 ohm is the variant in most cases.

2. Refer to number 1 as it is the most important fact that will help many of you out.

3. Yes, this means that out of 20 subs over half will read differently.

On average I have seen from 3.6 to 4.2(this is minus the dmm off set)... This is around the industry standard for a 4 ohm coil.

Test a few on your own.

Don't need to, playah.
Audio_phill has already done numerous Ti tests (on the 91XX back in late 2010, iirc), which is where the data came from. Just talked with him about it, in fact.

Eclipse SW9122 (Series Coils)

Re = 6.2342 ohms
Fs = 38.5112 Hz
Zmax = 98.0958 ohms
Qes = 0.6023
Qms = 8.8752
Qts = 0.5640
Le = 5.6909 mH (at 1 kHz)
Diam = 245.7450 mm ( 9.6750 in )
Sd = .0474m^2( 73.5177 in^2)
Vas = 20.5683 L ( 0.7264 ft^3)
BL = 25.7803 N/A
Mms = 265.3696 g
Cms = 64.3599 uM/N
Kms =15537.6152 N/M
Rms = 7.2350 R mechanical
Efficiency = 0.1833 %
Sensitivity= 84.6488 dB @1W/1m

Optimum box based on these TSP's is 2.25 cubes net @ 27Hz for an F3 of 24Hz and a +/-3dB 23.9Hz up.

I have an open mind..... so where's ur test results countering the above?

pro-rabbit
04-24-2012, 01:13 PM
Did you actually read the rest of my post? Have Phil test about 20 and post results for each as well. They will vary each time as will the rest of the T/S specs.

Why would tests need to contradict that test? I have explained the reason why you will see a difference. And what is close to the industry standard which is not what most understand them to be.

Lets try this.

Go test what ever sub you personally own at the terminal. The brand does not matter, but note what it reads and what you purchased.

Now touch your leads together on your DMM and see what that reads. Subtract that from the reading on the coil and that is a close to accurate reading of what the coil actually is.

Most 4 ohm coils are closer to 3.5(ish) plus or minus a bit.

I can see where this is going though and not worth the effort in this extreme of a case. Take what you will from the "facts" and just understand what has been said and tested.

When I replied with quote, there was no "rest" of ur post, so I assume you been editing.

He published his, and the dude has likely forgotten more than most will ever know about sub T/S parameters.....think I'll stick with what he has done versus what others choose to say.

Typing random BS is alot easier than putting up actual numbers from actual test results.
Back it up, or shut it up

Yes, I have been editing to get rid of some of the unwanted parts of my posts do to quick posting.

I can see you missed more as well.

You can believe who ever you want, it will not hurt my feelings what so ever. Just be sure to try that little test I showed you. Then you may just understand how the industry works with coil setups. Most all coils are not as marketed, they are actually a tad lower(some vary much more then others) then rated.

What needs to be "backed up" here? I gave you a way to test out what I am saying and you can do research enough to see that what I am saying is correct and not taking away from what Phill has posted. Not sure why/how this is getting so far off based here.

Fair enuff. Not looking to be the popo, just a numbers guy , and to say "d4" seems to ignore the fact that some published testing shows otherwise.

Phil's numbers were consistent on all he tested @ 6.2 to 6.7. The 9122 @ 6.2 was not broken-in, with a reading of 3.1 ohms per.
I just don't believe that there is any way that there is a 'variance' in a run of subs that would reflect in them reading from 3.1 all the way up to your range of 3.6-4.2....something else gotta be going on.

Maybe an actual change in the gap or the coil over the time since he tested versus those u tested.
It would be nice to know if there was a purposeful change from TC in the build......

That is hard to say, looking over notes I made over the years the lowest I seen on the 9122 was 3.3 per coil and the highest was a 4.1.. Some quick math shows the average to be 3.6(and some change) though. Which is still with in the industry standard for a "4 ohm" coil. I have two sitting at the house currently, if I remember I will bring them up to the shop and see what they test out at.

Here is another issue with all the various tests that we all can do. Even if the same sub is tested with the same software it is very typical to see a few alterations in the results from one place to another. I'm sure there is a laundry list of reasons for that as well, but it does happen.

True enough, and I'm sure we're pitthing off the OP with all this (even if it is "on topic"), so this will be my last remark , here , about the coils:

With a range of 3.1 - 4.1 (or plus/minus 0.5), we're talking a variance of around 15%....seems a pretty surprising allowance from a quality manufacturer for a higher-level, branded sub!
Makes one wonder if this is why the softparts were known to be "weak" if one pushed these a bit....

:peaceout:
