View Full Version : box guidance 3-4 sa-10s

I just picked up 4 sa-10s, and I'm trying to find a way to utilize all 4 ported if possible, but if it wont work then I will just stick with 3

Car is a saturn ion redline with dimensions 16Hx40Wx20D, have more depth if need be. this is just gonna be a daily driver for mainly hip hop, occasional rock, country etc. Will be powered by a planet audio rxd2400 for the time being.

I"m just wondering if I angle 2 of them inward to make them fit would it cause cancellation or any other bad side effects?

I also saw a design with 2 firing to each side, port facing back, would that be a better option?
Unsure on how much box these need, seems 1-1.25 seems best? looking at tuning around 33.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Bump for 12 hours, 104 views and no ideas!

I would first not recommend putting them on each side rather than on a single baffle/plane to reduce cancellation and phase changes in the response curve. Best bet for simplicity and moderate performance for the sa10s, is to top mount them and port at 90 degrees to the rear to keep it simple, BUT there can be very detailed and conformed ways to control the peakiness of the sa10s in other design ideas. Too many factors to give a real resolution to a deisgn idea, but try the sub up port back idea for these as the response will fade quickly in a port/baffle same plane design for these drivers below tuning. Hope that helps!

Thank you! That's the kind of info I was looking for. I may end up ust doing 3 to make my life easier, I just don't know if I can bring myself to do subs up in a trunk, just doesn't seem right to me

Anytime man. YW. Yea, subs up in a trunk is not an issue if the trunk has enough space for them to operate in, which would require the design to be worked around a specific height, since the trunk cannot be changed lol. But, yea it can work even if it doesnt seem to be usable as much as another idea, but the design and the trunk seperately has to work before the design/tunk works together. Meaning the design needs its control of the response and the trunk need to be sealed enough to handle the output pressure to efficiently release it into the cabin area/listening area. :D

I smell a fourth order...

Mobile knows his sht. I have my 2 sa 12s subs up, port back and it sounds great. A good flat response and will still get loud. I would suggest listening to what he has to say, and if u can, have him design your box.

I smell a headache lol. The problem is that I am always second guessing myself, and I'm always afraid of not being happy enough with whatever i decide on. That would be fine if I had unlimited funds, unfortunately is not the case. For the time being I'm gonna figure something out for 3 since one still needs a dustcap replaced, and can be a spare or end up in the girls minivan

At least that way i can do slot port or aero to the side, but then there's a new decision to make :suicide:

thanks brooklyn, was actually just checkin the site out yesterday. I have no doubt they do great work, I'm leaning heavily towards that so I don't end up dissatisfied with a design

Very understandable! That is why this business will always be an ongoing experience, because there is no perfect design, as it is only relative to the listener. But there is a thing called "optimism", and that my friend is very power when it comes to something with a virtually endless amount of calculations and variables lol.

well at least I have found my designer lol! I'm really thinking on this subs up port back idea now... You think you could make it work with 36w x15h x 24d?

04-18-2012, 10:30 PM
The should be fine. Looks like you have about six cubes to work with.

thanks dirty just hate to be that guy that gives dimensions with somethin that isn't gonna work. I wold blame myself but still...

You can make it work virtually with any dimensions as long as the drivers fit and there is enough room for the port to do its job, as we already have limitaitons by size in low frequency design anyhow. So, I would agree and say yes, it can work in those dimensions no problem. :D Now, with those dimensions, you are going to have a tight sqeeze for all sub up, but still will work. I may recommend a tapped idea if the response information works out enough for it as well for usable volume and mounting area. I would be interested to see what I can come up with.

tapped would be pretty interesting if it worked. Those were actually some of the designs I liked and didn't even realize it. I have never dealt with that so didn't even think of it. I'm pretty sure whatever you can come up with will be much better then me tying to struggle through it. Payment and print order sent. let the fun begin!!
