The equipment I'm using is in my sig. All i have left at this point is putting in the box. And the doors and tweeter pods on the sail panels are getting glassed next week also, the mid range and the mid bass. I'll be welding in some supports to keep the ZRs from tearing the doors apart. I will update the pics as its done. The goal of this build is to have both winning sound quality and burp 50s. With the very high peak on these box it should atleast do one of them. The sub amps crossover will be set to 60hz for daily, the ZRs will pick it up from there, so the peak will not be there. The next add will be a Audison bit one later on down the road. I hope you enjoy it, I have.

Oh... I'll let you know about those soon... From what I have read they shine from 60-200 and fall off. Perfect for what I need. The L8 was the second option but they shine from 200 up.

Yeah i heard that they were really good. Right now I've got some 5 way 6x9's in the rear deck there ok. But I've noticed that alot of people don't use rear speakers, something about the imaging not being right. And like i said i want to start competing . And im Not sure if i want to do spl, or the others. What are your thoughts. And thanks for your time.

Pick the one you enjoy more or try to do a bit of both. I can tell you its much cheaper if you pick one or the other. I wanted to be competative in both, I know Im not going to place at the top in both at the same time but do well in both. If the front is imaged and powered right ditch the rears.

A little cure time. Then the fun part, sanding and painting. I think Im going to match the silver of the car and trim. If I cant get it just right I'll end up repainting the interior trim later on. I think I can get it close enough for now. 2653183526531836

What are the specs on the box? Thats an odd design, how the port fires into a large chamber like a 6th order but the woofer isnt inside the box, who designed it? I have seen about the same cone area on half the power in a similar sized vehicle do 1db less from high 20s to mid 40s. I suspect that the box is holding you back from more output.

Surreal designed it. I wanted a music box and thats what I got. Its 1 db flat from 26-60hz. It feels A LOT louder then it metered. Not peaky at all, the SQ is top notch. The "6th order" is designed with the back glass in mind. If I open the hatch and turn it up they bottom out. Its basically the loading surface. I could get more with a standard slot with it moved into the cabin more but I'm going to compete in SQ also so i dint want peaky till i can add a good processor/EQ to it to tone the peak down.

I did find another peak after i got home using a phone app so i dont know if its anywhere close to ligit. It was 3db higher at 69hz. Running through the tones at a high enough volume to register the change.

Looks great, love how well the fiberglass pod molds with the door.

I am disappointed they share airspace, that mostly defeats the benefit of having separate drivers. That 8" will manhandle the 6.5". WHen the 8" moves out it will pull the 6.5" in. The 6.5" would have been better in the kick. Maybe next time. :)

Great work though. The box is cool as hell. I like the amp mounts.

I am surprised at how much you fit on that battery. Well done.
Maybe a CAI would give you more room for mounting fuse holders. :).

Im having a ton of mid bass cancelization right know anyway cause I just have power going to them with the doors cut open. I cant start them over till the end of next month and I had to have sound till then. But man are they loud, the 8s are really starting to move so I cant imagine what its going to sound like sealed.

I have come to the conculsion this car just cant get loud though. My friend has 4 DD 3512s on two M3s in his and he pulled a 52. I ended up getting a 47.2 today with charged batteries. I sealed up some of the holes in the hatch where I took the panels off also so I think that helped a little.

keep_hope_alive
04-27-2012, 11:35 PM
No, I wasn't referring to the Mille, your speakers are just fine.

I am referring to the work I did in the rear corner and rear quarter. Stupid lossy, that entire rear quarter. We put in a lot of work to eliminate that highly resonant part of the car. Any tC owner should do the same.

That tC is so well sealed, if you try to shut both doors at once, one pops back. It's cool.

DDtC
04-27-2012, 11:37 PM
I know that.. I put 2 layers of deadner on the rear quarters. Still flexes.

keep_hope_alive
04-27-2012, 11:54 PM
We did more than layers on the outside, we did several layers built up on opencell foam. The result is zero exterior flex. Since the interior layer is decoupled from the exterior.

Someone wanting SPL would want something similar, but not foam that flexes. The interior layer should be rigid. I would opt for several layers of fiberglass on top of the foam backing if I wanted SPL.

DDtC
05-01-2012, 10:26 AM
I like the sound and range of this box but i know this set up has a 50 in it, or at least close to it. I dont think this car likes subs up so Buck is drawing something up with subs and port back with about 18sq inches of port per cube. It may not be as accurate but we will see.

I would add more bracing to the box in the form of 2 dowels to connect the top piece to the bottom piece. You can never have too much bracing imo. If you want SPL you need rigidity, many people don't realize this.

Yea for sure, I'd bet that tuning for that box was 35-40hz based on the size of the opening and available depth. When you build it, put that V behind the port on the inside and it will help guide airflow into the port. The local shop by me with the Meca world titles builds all of their boxes like that. They use round ports in about 97% of their builds

26535168Finally happy with this setup. All I needed was this low end monster. Thanks to Jaydubb757 I have a demo monster. ***** on the meter but its all good. I'm in the process of designing a meter box for the times it will be needed. The OCTO port design wont work with the XLs.

The cheap JL decal had to go. Techforce didnt get my colors right again, I wanted it to match the dust caps. I looks pretty good though. 26535595

Last box and TL score. Upgrades on the way. I'll be adding another run of power and ground, 2 more D3400s, rebuilding amp rack to make room for the batts, DC 7.5K, Singer 280. If moving the amp rack gives me the room I need I'll go with a Lvl 6 18(6 cubes with a 10 inch aero), if not its going to be lvl 5 12s in this box. Its going to be a slow go, I'm going to be deployed a lot over the next year and this little one decided moved in..

who built your amp rack?

A friend of mine at premier autosound. I think I'm going to recruit Jeff for the new one. No welding on it this time.

I was thinking Jeff too. Gotta see how much the new box will take up first.

It's been a while. DC XLs are sold, box is sold, EA alt is getting replaced.

I got a singer 300 amp getting here next week, DD 9512s should be getting built next week. Jaydubb757 is doing the box. The DDs are going to see 4 cubes net with 64sq of port. Kerfing the port and laying some glass inside. Should bang.

One of the twins!! This is a monster even compared to my old DC XL m2s. Build quality is what you would expect from a top shelf woofer. 26541329

26541356265413572654135826541359I'm really impressed with these subs so far. I didnt think DD subs could move this much air and play as low as they are this stiff. I've only got to play with them for about 20 minutes. Shes already doing hair tricks.

Its a low end monster now. The car has a few layers of deadener and its acting like I've done nothing to it. Numbers are a tick better then the XLs but doing it way lower. 27-37hz instead of 45-50hz. I call that a win. The added batts and M4a should bring it over the top.

150db at 37hz... I won't have the DD M4a till I get back from deployment next spring. What's next? Recone to 15s, super charge them in a wall?

I finally finished this build and I couldn't be happier that it's done. I made a few changes over the past few weeks and finished it.
Alpine CDA-117 turned into a 80PRS
DC 5.0K turned into a older modded DD M4 which is right there with it if not better. Anyway here is some finish work ****. 2654842826548432265484312654843026548429

The only other change I'm even considering is going from the HSK XLs to the Mille.

this looks really nice.

i love the Mille but for accuracy, not output. the high energy series is louder.

I'm think I would like to take a lose in output if I gained accuracy. Not that these are bad in anyway but there is always room for improvement. I find myself having the subs backed off now more than not.

I just realized I started this log 2 years ago. Anyway, got some RTA time in. 1/3 smooth average front seats. There is a db here and there on L/R that I can't fix but it's very close. It's down about 8-10db but sounds amazing. Perfect daily driver, if I want to demo all I have to do is change the EQ. 26548567
