Decided to rebuild the audio system in my truck my previous build log can be found here (http://www.caraudio.com/forums/car-audio-build-logs-cars-trucks-suvs/374051-toyota-tacoma-build.html). For the new build I've chosen 2 sundown SA8s powered by a sundown SAX-1200D for the sub stage, and a set of Image Dynamics CTX65CS components powered by a sundown SAX-125.2 for the front stage. I'm also planning on getting a Pioneer AVH-P4300DVD head unit, and I'm still waiting on my Mean Green high output alternator to come in. I've also got a 0ga dual amp kit, Krystal RCA cables, and some extra power wire for a big 3 upgrade from knu konceptz. Now on to some pics!

Wood filler going on all the edges to smooth everything up. Lots of sanding to be done still. This box will be painted Imperial Jade Mica to match the exterior of the truck.
More to come soon!

Looks good, I love taco build. Taco is hopefully my next rig.

Are these SA-8 or SA-8 "V.2"??.... Version 2's make my pants tight.

****, that box is HUGGGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE for 2 8's. Why so big?

it's mostly port, hence why it looks so big

Exactly and its dual chambered meaning each sub is separated with its own airspace and port. Its basically 2 boxes in one. The port is really long to get the tuning down to 32hz for some deep low end extension the overall dimensions are 45 1/4 X 14 X 19 with the amp rack shelf and everything it should fit nicely behind the seats in my extended cab taco!

I think i saw your build when i did a search for taco builds lol. Your's the plexi glass window with bed liner and vinyl that looks like white carbon fiber correct? I love that build.

1200W @ 1 ohm

i figured it out after i saw picture with all your gear. interested in seeing this build done since i myself am going to be running 8's on 1200w @ 1 ohm as soon as i finish my box lol. the only difference is my 8's are cadence sw2-8s with one of their amps. really want to put more power to them but will see how the 1200w sounds.

nice build so far btw.

First coat of primer is done waiting for it to dry so i can start sanding and then do a second coat of primer followed by more sanding then some color coat :D followed by more and more sanding. I also ordered a Pioneer AVH-P4300DVD head unit along with the seperate iPhone cable so i can control my Pandora radio and Netflix apps from the head unit which is a very nice feature.

Well i tried spraying on the first color coat and for some reason on certain spots the paint would not stick to the primer at all it just ran all over the place :rage: So now it looks like im gonna be sanding everything back down and rolling on some herculiner bed liner instead the inner baffle where the subs will be mounted looked okay so i think I'm gonna go ahead and finish that part out green to give it a two tone look ive herd good things about the herculiner and have seen pictures of some pretty good results. Wish me luck.

Yup, that was my build. I used Herculiner and 3M DiNoc for the carbon fiber look. Right now that enclosure is sitting in the garage since I like to try different stuff all the time lol

Make sure you stir the **** out of the Herculiner. I used a foam roller for mine instead of the regular cloth type and worked good!

Nice work on the enclosure! Can't wait for the finish

Got it all sanded back down and masked off the areas I didn't want to be coated in Herculiner. I got the first coat of Herculiner applied to the box waiting for it to dry a bit then I'm going to apply a second coat. I have to say that the Herculiner turned out better than i could have imagined. I should have just used this in the first place.

Looks good, I've always liked that textured look. Does Herculiner only come in black?

i believe so but if you like the texture could always just take it to a line-x or rhino liner dealer where they can spray it with color.... i believe rhino liner line can actually color match as in matching the exterior color of your car to the texture coating.

Thanks guys glad everyone is enjoying my build so far. I went ahead and added a second coat of herculiner to the box I'm gonna let it dry over night and hopefully have some pics tomorrow before I finish it up with a mirror gloss imperial jade mica on the baffle. The Herculiner turned out to be a great solution since my attempt at painting this enclosure turned out to be total failure. Herculiner FTW!

Yea man I love my taco it's a great little truck I can't wait to get this installed the 8's should do well since it doesn't take much for a taco to get loud.

Today I visited cool cars in Louisville KY and ordered an xs power s3400 battery to go with my mean green high output alternator I shouldn't have any voltage issues after I install these and do a big 3 upgrade :D looks like Saturday will be installation day I'm super pumped!

Any updates?

Updates as of now: I've got all the wiring ran speakers and amps are installed I currently have everything running off my crappy Jensen head unit the pioneer should be in today plus I still haven't had a chance to pick up my xs power battery. I've been really busy this week so I haven't had much time to update sorry about that. When I get the head unit and battery in I'll go ahead and update again with install picks everything sounds really great do far even with the crappy preamps on the Jensen lol. I'll post a video too once everything is installed.
