So. I want the absolute best for my future Skar VVX15. This is Skar's custom ported box specifically made for the VVX 15 at 32hz
http://i41.tinypic.com/j5va4y.png
They are charging $120 for the box. My question is do you think I could get a better ported box for the same price or less? Or atleast the same box at a lower price? I'll assume if you reply to this post that you can, that you will indeed make a better box. But you have to tell me why its better..yea. Let tehh boxxers start :D

For that 15 I would recommend some bracing, 45 degree corner in port, and a dual baffle. Other then that 120 is a very fair price, and from what I can tell it is 3.27 cubic feet after displacement and tuned to 32 Hz, 16.59 sq inches of port per cubic foot. So it should do the job quite well.

What amp will you be using?

You could build your own for the price of a sheet of mdf, some screws & some glue = <$50. Add a few dollars for carpet or paint if you want it carpeted or painted.

I agree, assuming he owns a saw and has a location to build this.

I would but, I need the port and sub facing the same direction. That sub box would be perfect if I had a hatch, but I don't, I gotta sedan, and I'm trying to reduce vibrations from my trunk, and a up firing sub will have the worst effect.

That box is made from Skar themselves. Should I tell them that I want a brace and baffles? Even though I have no idea what that is. And I'll be using a Audiopipe Mini 1000 watt amp, running at 600 watts RMS at 2 ohms, for the life of the system.

youll need more power for that sub to really shine, that amp only does 700rms tops at 2 ohm I own one. Get a d2 sub and run the amp at 1 ohm

I signed my soul to bestbuy and got a creditcard with an $800 limit, now with the system I have (decent beginner) I'm moving up to a 15" VVX powered by the same 1kwatt Alpine.

there are many factors when getting an enclosure. what kind of music you want it to reproduce. your over all goals. what kind of bandwidth you want. ect ect ect. the optimum box for the sub maynot be the optimum box for you.

You paid 885 for alpine M1000? I got mine on ebay for 200. Beast amps though.

At the end of the day, you will get what you pay for (if you put your money in the right place) and quality does not come cheap.

Lol, I mean't for the life of the current alternator I have. Once I get a high output alternator, I'ma sell the 15, and get 2 Skar 12's and run like 750-800 watts RMS to each. And once I graduate from college, and have a decent car, I think I might do like 2 18's in the SUV, 2 15's in the Sedan, and 1 15' in the racer.

If that is your plan, then why not just purchase a single 12" for now and then add a second later on?

EpicMango
02-02-2012, 02:56 PM
hehe, I already upgraded the sub from my computers speaker system, from a stock 8' tang bang to a RE 8' sub at 200 watts RMS, I reach 117dB at the port, and 99dB where I sit from the sub.

Because I would need to get a new enclosure, new wiring, new amp. If I heard the Skar VVX15 is as good as it is, I think I'll be set. Plus when I sell the setup, I'll definitely get some money :D iWant Tehhh lowzzzzzz damneett.

I don't follow your idea here..but to each their own.

I would think picking up a single 12 since you want to run two later is the best option. Then you can just pick up an amp when you have funds..then a second sub...wire...and enclosure and done. Maybe I have just went through all this before so I see taking the easiest/cheapest way as the best result.

I'm sure it will work for you no matter what you do though.

I think I'll be just fine with 1 15' for now, and hopefully for a bit . I don't wanna fret with less bass now, and great bass later, I want great bass now, o.0 bass later :D
