ok well i have a box built by jmanpc years ago and its still going strong. I did a slap job paint job on it and want to carpet it. Im looking for any tips ideas glue brand or type and carpet. As well as carpet length i will need with extra for mistakes.

the box is 34w 14w 17h...it is ported with rounded corners. The paint looks pretty bad and also want to know if i need to smooth out the paint or sand it down so itll be easier to grab...?

first want to start with carpet type...backed or not backed?

then what type of glue...spray or canister.

I like to use 3m Super 77 Spray Adhesive, $10 for a can at Home Depot, can also be found at Hobby Lobby and Jo Ann Fabrics. It's enough for about a 5-6 cu/ft box and that includes spraying both contact surfaces.

I kind of taught myself and I'm not the best at seaming. Watch some vids on youtube and get good at seaming.

i used 3m spray glue, non backed carpet,
basically tried to make the front and top faces look the best.
i used a black felt material, and where the seems were, used a hot clothes iron and melted them ever so slighty to make it look seamless.

ok yea i looked at a vid on youtube bout the seaming...pretty informative. Does the spray glue stick as good as say using a glue canister and brush? Also...im not sure how much carpet i need? See prerolled ones on ebay...may just knock one of those off...

That is for 1 yard, you would need about 2 yards. 1 yard = 36inches

Should i b fine with the contact Of the glue betwen the carpet and box considering my painted box feels pretty rough? Or should i give it a quick sand job

I've never carpeted a box, but if I was going to (which I will in the future on my more refined build) I would sand it like a mofo.

No need to sand unless you have edges that don't line up. Carpet is nice because it hides imperfections well. I like to spray both surfaces that will be in contact then wait about 2 mins to let the glue tack up then it sticks real well. The only thing I don't like about carpeting boxes is that its really easy to make a mess. Make sure to not get the glue where it will show on the carpet, you will never get it off and if you rub it, you just get a flat spot. Its very easy to do this too.

Ok...so the glue will stick between the carpet and box surface no matter the texture without sanding....not sayin its real rough tho

I bought some glue from my wholesaler a few days ago. I don't know where you can find it though. But it comes out like a spider web. It is hard to explain how it looks. I found it was easier to control the spray and didn't stink up the house. It was fun to use! Way better than the 3m stuff IMO. If you want to search for it let me know and I will run down the basement and get the name.
