View Full Version : Filling in half din slot...?
I have a dash kit like this:
http://i40.tinypic.com/2ir44dg.jpg
My goal is to put my volt meter, switches, remote gain, etc. in the half din slot.
Only thing I can find is something like this:
Amazon.com: 4 BLACK ABS PLASTIC SHEET 12"x12"x1/8" CAR/STEREO/AUDIO/INTERIOR: Everything Else (http://www.amazon.com/BLACK-PLASTIC-SHEET-STEREO-INTERIOR/dp/B003L81E6W)
I could cut to fit over the whole slot, drill holes for the buttons and everything, then just glue it on there.
Not sure how good it would look.
Seeing if anyone has any other suggestions.
Also, what's the plastic molding ish called, plastic weld or something, that I could fill in the edges\cracks and paint if need be.

^ I remember seeing that
where'd you get that clip \ piece to go in there?
can't find any kind of dash kit that comes with one that will fit my truck, 1997 f150
might just try ordering this:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_4453_Scosche-FD1510B-FD1510.html
it's like 11bucks shipped, so, maybe i can just sand the clips off \ make back smooth, and glue it on mine?
any other ideas?

What about an eq? Random question. Not sure which would work or if at all. Do some research to check for dimensions. The slot may be too small for a decent one but just a thought. :D

It came with a cover in case you didn't want to use the half din slot

yea, i actually have a epicenter sitting here in my room, i thought about putting that in there, it doesn't want to fit, but i could easily cut\grind some of the plastic in the dash kit away...
i'm kind of leaning more to the buttons, remote gain, and volt meter in there though...
i listen to a lot of talk radio, so was planning on putting a switch\button in line with the remote turn on wire for the sub amp, so i can just hit a button and it would kill the amp... it's a lot easier than clicking through the settings in my head unit...

yea, i see some other kits that have that, mine didn't, *****...

I would try and see if you can find one that has it, or cut out off the holder and use the plastic on that to make a front cover

good call
yea, if i'll look for a different dash kit some more tomorrow, i've looked for about a half hour today online, and can't find anything...
if anyone else knows a good site to order dash kits from... i have a 97 f150, need a single din, and half din with blank cover
if i can't find anything in the next week or so, i think that idea of cutting the plastic sleeve thing that's in there now and using that is the next best thing...
