What do you guys think about Korean cars? Any experience or word of mouth?

I just got a Hyundai Genesis a couple of months ago and I must say that I absolutely LOVE it!

Sorry for the dark pictures, taken with phone.

ive beat the hell out of my tib from the inside out and have not had the first issue out of it. (other than snapping a motor mount doing burnouts but thats a major weak point on the tib)

the korean cars are built a lot better than what they used to be. there is a reason that hyundai offers a 100k bumper to bumper warranty.

IN BEFORE I LIKE WAFFLE STARTS TO HATE! :P

As soon as I saw the first picture I knew that was somewhere in southern Cali, sure enough, Orange. And those Genesis are pure ***. I have an '09 Elantra myself, certainly no complaints. 100,000 mile warranty... As opposed to many cars that are 3 times the cost with only 36,000 miles? Who's got more faith in their product?
It feels sturdy, comfortable, drives well, turns on a dime. My only complaint is the 4-speed transmission. It just ***** for gas, and is hard getting it from 3rd to 4th. Granted the 2011's have a 6-speed, so, that's much better. Oh, and I tested a Honda Civic before I bought this car, and I was blown away at how cheap and mediocre everything was in the honda, especially being the most expensive of the cars I looked at.

I think the wife's next car will be a Hyundai. The new styling really is pretty slick for some <20k cars.

If its going to be an import, its gotta come from japan. We mustve made them super smart when we dropped those nukes on them, they can make one hell of a small motor. However in general, i prefer american quality, not saying that its here anymore though. Thats why all my drivers are older than me.

With commute for work and school, and extremely conservative driving, I average 28mpg.... which is right on mark with my EPA estimated combined MPG. Now when he's averaging 7.7mpg, that amazes me, cus that's about what I averaged in my old 5.8l V8 Bronco:P

Having driven or owned various Toyotas, Hondas, and Hyundais... I must say, the Hyundais beat out the other 2 in build quality, ride comfort, and basic features. I've driven Hondas and Toyotas over the various decades. As for Hyundai, the oldest I've experienced is my '09, and then a couple '11. So I can't deny Hyundai ****** in the past, but I think they're leaving Japan in their dust now.

You realize Hyundai is part of GEMA with Mitsubishi (and formerly Chrysler), right ? The engines are primarily designed by former Mitsubishi engineers.

And their "smarts" didn't come from a nuke, it comes from years of government regulation (which forced innovation) as well as a culture which stresses a high degree of morality.

Anyways, I can't say I'm a fan of the Genesis. I was really interested in getting one, but on the test drive, you could really feel the weight in the corners. Hopefully the new Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ are better in that regard at a decent price. I'm still holding onto that sliver of hope that Nissan comes out with a new S-chassis car, but it has looked bleak for several years and I haven't read anything that has been encouraging in that regard.

I bought a Veloster a little over a month ago and really enjoy driving it. True, it is a turd for power, but I didn't get this car for speed.

If I could afford a new car, I'd invest in an STi or the BRZ.

The new Veloster Turbo is looking nice. Haven't checked the specs on it but anything with a turbo is fun.

I have always wanted a STI. My friend used to have a 99 or 2000 2.5rs and that was a nice car. The BRZ looks nice too but haven't checked the specs on it either to see how it compares to the STI.

^^^ i couldnt do the fiat..
but i am starting to like hyundai "now" because the revamped their entire production.
everything from 03 under seems to have tons of issues...
they are nice cars nowadays.
Compared to honda, toyota, and hyundai, today i would put hyundai, toyota, honda.
their cars are simply good now. toyota is doing ok, but lack the Sporty side really.. and honda is riding on their name,.
their newer cars are starting to all look the same, and keep getting cheaper made..
ID love to drive a new genesis or tib,
they make my top 10 reasonables.

I actually just read in motor trend(?) today at work that the rumor is nissan is working on the S16 to combat the brz/frs.

Personally, the roof line is a little low for me, but I'm right at 5' 11". I prefer my Scooby:

The new house has a 2 car garage instead of a carport! For now, the wife and I are just waiting on a close date from the lender.

More like a thatched roof with three open sides.

I highly suggest you test drive one. Honestly, I found a friend's 350z to have more room than my wife's Genesis Coupe. Then again, she is short, so I guess the car fits her well since she is the height of the average Korean, hahahahahahaah.

I like my 370Z. I am a ***** for HP so the BRZ and Scion FR-S look appealing, but the 200hp is the only real draw back. They are light so if I was in the market to get a new car I would definitely try one out.

My buddy has an Elantra and it seems to be problem for him. The Korean cars have a come long way. There was an editoral in C&D or MotorTrend talking about when they were young looking out the rear side window and fantasising about getting a Honda CR-X or Prelude when they got old enough to have a license. Then they went on to say about how times have changed, Honda is resting on their laurels and don't have any new fun cars. The cars now that the kids are going to be interested in will be the Korean cars that would have got you laughed out of the high school parking lot when he was school.
