I'm sure this question has been asked many times but if someone could give me a quick accurate answered I'd really appreciate it. Im about to purchase a 15" kicker L7 and I was wondering what's the difference between sealed vs. ported and always what's the difference between putting a sub in its minimum required specs to putting it in its maximum required specs??
Thanks for the help

search button would help alot..but the l7 should be ported in a fairly big box...but why kicker, the l7 sound sloppy

To put it short and simple, youre going to get more output with a ported enclosure. With the size of the enclosure, it just depends on the type of bass you want. I see youre getting a 15" kicker l7, so im guessing you just want it to get loud. Id go with a bigger enclosure for that sub. Also with those subs, id tune the box a little higher. From what ive seen, they dont really like the lower tuning. But I can be wrong on that one.

Still gotta know what amp you have and what kind of vehicle as well.

Ported is louder than sealed.

Sealed needs less space than ported.

This is assuming both enclosures are built properly.

^That's the very basic overview

ported keeps the coils cooler longer also you get boomier bass from a ported enclosure ,small boxes are more peakier than bigger boxes .as far as sealed or ported ,that depends on your listening likes and dislikes

Thanks guys. It will be pushed by a Audiopipe AP1500 in an Isuzu i280.

i would get a diamond d6 before i bought that kicker l7.i had a cvx before and my d6 is louder than that cvx was in the same ported box.the cvx made my windshield bump a little but my d6 flexes my whole roof back glass spoiler all of it.but,if you are stuck on the l7 than by all means get it.i would advise you to port it though.as stated by mylows10,it will keep the coils cooler.

If you dont want to spend that much, I would get the sundown sa-15. Theyre on sale for a couple more days.

Btw, I rather be more SPL than SQ. I don't want no SQ at all but I rather SPL

If you want a sub for spl, id get the audioque hdc3. Has the potential to get way louder than the 15" kicker l7 and its about the same price as the l7 too.

DD Audio makes great SPL drivers. I have modeled many of these and noted a peak resonance in nearly every enclosure that had to be compensated for SQ. So, most of their models are spl based that I have noticed. mainly the higher end models. Just a thought.

There are lots off good subs. Just pick one. And my type Rs hated the lows. They did get loud though

What's your budget? I'm sure there's a handful of subs to walk all over the L7 for as much, if not less.

I will move this topic to the appropriate spot on this forum with my budget and things like that.
