Finally joined the forum, always looking at it as a guest but with some friends I joined up. I'm here to look into building a new sub box for my 2002 impala. I've gone through just a few systems in this car and this one that I want to do will be big. My prior installations were:

(2) Memphis PR Series 12" Subs in a Sealed Box on a Memphis PR 500w Amp
(2) Memphis M1 Series 12" Subs in a Ported Box on a Memphis PR 1000w Amp
(1) Memphis Mojo 12" Sub in a Ported Box on a Elevation Audio 2000w Amp
(2) Memphis Mojo 15" Subs in a Ported Box on a Memphis 4000w Mojo Amp
*(2) Rockford Fosgate T2 12" Subs in a Ported Box on a Rockford Fosgate 2500w Constant Power Amp*Current Setup**Which is also for sale!*

Now trying to figure out possibly doing (2) Memphis CM15Q1 Quad Ohm 15's and (2) Memphis 2500 watt Mojo Series Amplifiers! Trying to figure out a box and port configuration for this setup... going to be interesting for sure!

I hope to learn more and gain some experience and friends here on the forum!

how did you fit 15s in the trunk..i have a impala had to build the box inside the trunk

Welcome to car audio nirvana...heaven on Earth.

The box was 36" deep if I remember properly, and well... it just fit. By just, i mean we had to bend some of the metal back that meet the trunk lid... we got it it haha. I feel my build for this box will need to be built inside the trunk, but i feel like there will be an issue with screwing in the sides and top. If you have any hints or tips please feel free to elaborate :)

glad to see someone else besides me running a memphis sub. welcome :)

Welcome to the forum man :) lots of moneys in that first post

Memphis subs are great falcons! Love them, and with the Rockford system, I just miss them haha. Plenty of money spent, kinda wish I just went from the first to the current without the spending in-between... oh well I enjoyed every single one. Here is a pic of the 15's in my impala though. If you notice the white crap around where the trunk sits, thats what sealed it after cutting it haha.

how many cubic feet is that box? cause in my ford escort zx2 all i can fit is a 4.0 cf box with a slot port for one fifteen. would love to upgrade to 2 if i could but it doesnt seem possible :crap:

09-19-2011, 11:46 AM
Looks solid...how many cubes is the box

09-19-2011, 11:48 AM
I know it was 17" high, and 36" deep... not sure on the width

09-19-2011, 11:50 AM
Not sure on the width there.. but was def 17" and 36" deep

09-19-2011, 11:51 AM
dude your in batavia? i live 20 mins away!

09-19-2011, 11:53 AM
Haha oh ****! Then you know Hardcor Audio, thats where I get most my stuff and I worked there for a couple years

09-19-2011, 11:54 AM
hell yeah bro i love that place. been there a few times, got my hu there. thats awesome finally someone that runs memphis thats around here

09-19-2011, 11:56 AM
yeah mine was like 6.2 cu ft total subs up port back but...i just made the box a lil longer and not so tall and it went right in..it was louder this way too.

09-19-2011, 12:00 PM
Go and check it out falcon

09-19-2011, 12:02 PM
its not his current set up anymore. otherwise i would for sure

09-19-2011, 12:55 PM
Yeah man Hardcor has good prices on most their stuff, some things are a little up there but believe me they are not trying to make big profit on it. And hey pimpala, subs up and port back... i never thought of doing that!?! Now were the subs roughly around mid trunk area and then the port was facing the back of the car?

i wish i could be more apart of what they do up there. do you know if they do any builds or anything people can just check out?

09-19-2011, 01:05 PM
They do custom boxes and even fiberglass. There aren't any custom jobs on display though. PLus they are back at their old location, down by Tractor Supply, so their show room is small again

09-19-2011, 01:06 PM
gotcha. so when you get those two 15 quad coils put in i wanna here it! lol

09-19-2011, 01:13 PM
Well I wanna do the quad coils... but first i'd like to know if they really are any louder than the regular dual coils. No point in extra power to not get anymore db ya know?

09-19-2011, 01:17 PM
well the quads are rated for 2500 while the dual coils are 1750. plus with d1 coils you can get down to .5 with one sub...it all depends on what you want your final impedence and how many watts you plan to run

09-19-2011, 01:20 PM
Yeah I'm just not sure if they are in fact "louder." They have the same magnet size, just additional power handling, along with a stiffer voice coil because they have an 8 layer vs a 4 layer. And I plan on linking two of their 2500w Mojo amplifiers, which will put out 5000w RMS @ 2-ohm, which is what I can wire two of them quad subs too. And of course, you could def hear them!

09-19-2011, 01:22 PM
well i think they will be about the same on that power, however with the 8 layer coil they will run much cooler, i'd go with the quad coils :) how old are you by the way?

09-19-2011, 01:28 PM
I never thought of the coolness factor, maybe true, and yeah idk, I'm planning on calling and finding out. I'm in my early twenties man, senior in college!

09-19-2011, 01:30 PM
im sure you'll get a straight answer out of someone. and nice im a freshman in college lol 18!

09-19-2011, 01:46 PM
Oh nice man, I just got my single mojo when I was 18 haha. Def a good buy then too. Would you happen to have any photos of the CM 15 outside of the box, before installed? I can't find any pictures online besides the tiny image on Memphis's site?

09-19-2011, 01:53 PM
yeah i had the subs up in middle of trunk and port back...but when i ported it to the front way louder but sounded better to the back...i think it was louder than a port back sub back

09-19-2011, 02:04 PM

thats a link to where i was thinking about selling, got some good pics here

09-19-2011, 04:14 PM
Thanks flacons the sub looks pretty sweet! I can't wait to get them, if thats what I do. Alright, well pimpala, I turned my rockford subs around, front subs front port and it was def a little louder than subs back port back in my impala too! So it seems a proven point, at least in the impala's!. Now, if i wanted to do the same (subs front, port front) with the 15's, i would have to fit them between the narrowing strut towers... which would only let me have like a 1.5" or 2" port... so idk about that idea. Maybe doing subs up, port forward would be better so I can have more room. My second idea was to do subs front between the strut towers all the way forward and then do a 4th order (kinda like a bandpass) enclosure and port through the deck lid.

09-19-2011, 04:18 PM
subs up port front is louder...but subs up port back sounds a lil better but not as loud..and 2 15s wont fit foward because of the strut tower unless you have like a 1.5 in port maybee not even then

09-19-2011, 07:24 PM
Yeah that's about all the room I will get. That's why I feel it would be pointless to have 2 15" subs and then this dinky 1.5" port. Would look stupid. But idk about the sub forward, port through rear deck lid idea that I have, I think I will have an issue with lining things up and box size

09-19-2011, 07:31 PM
i have it subs up and port is back on the bottom ..slot port..i think it sounds better than any other way. and 1.5 is what size port i had but on the bottom

09-19-2011, 11:24 PM
As long as you have the port back to keep the lows it should be bangin

Sub Woofin
