I'm thinkin about picking up an eclipse 5v 6600 (i think) double din from a member on here.
The reason I've never run alpine decks is because they wont play mix cds. Being a part time DJ, I like to make my own mixes and play them in my car for advertisement and what not. I know most alpines wont play them as i've tried numerous times! my pioneers will play ANYTHING though!

will eclipse units play them?

I dont mean mp3 cds. I mean mix CDs made at home. I couldn't get them to play in Alpines

They will be fine. Alpine plays mix tapes as well. You must be burning them funky.

There is a setting on them to play WMA or MP3 discs. You have to enable the MP3 playback.

what format is the file your burning, but yes the 6600 was one of my favorite headunits, but if its anything like the avn7000 single din it WILL NOT play mp3 DVDs

Not meaning to take over your thread but is it still worth buying an eclipse avn726e? eclipse isnt making HU anymore and if it breaks it something I dont want to buy it for nothing. Plus you can snag one on ebay for 550 which is a steal for that good of quality.

They make them still. They just dont supply North America. The demand just wasnt there. Besides there are certified Eclipse repair centers. MITO and United Radio.

so for 550 you cant go wrong? one more thing... on their North American website the newsletter says that they cant do that autostart (dont know idf thats what its called) map guidance anymore. does the mean there will be no GPS on the unit?

I think that has to be inaccurate, or theres something else going on. I was at my local shop a week or so ago and the subject came up recently about eclipse and he said they did almost $225k in sales the last full year with eclipse. Im sure they werent the only store in the US selling lots of eclipse. But who knows, there some of the best HU's made.

Totally accurate. Nobody is interested in headunits with 8v preouts, optical outputs (some models), time alignment, slopes, EQ, etc. They are into the stupid dolphin animations and changing colors now.

I'd put my dolphin animated HU (Clarion DRX9375) up against a lot of the HU's made after its time.

As for the 6600, I have/use the 6620 (newer version of the 6600) and haven't had any issues with it playing a mixed cd that a friend of mine makes. He's a rapper w/a small label, but he does his own to help with the costs and I have 0 issues playing his stuff. You'll be fine w/that HU.

Should I get the 726e or the 6000 series?

It's up to you and the options either one has that you like.

I too would be torn between the 2.
I like the looks of a full double DIN over a flipout,
BUT... the 726 is newer and has better graphics/options.
