So I tried to help a friend out with his lancer.
2 jl 10" w6 / 1200watt gmax, in sealed box facing truck = sounds decent but trunk rattles like crazy
deadend the truck, put a wall up and faced subs into cab = sounds tighter/louder/better? NO!
ends up sounding worse and kinda dead. seems like sp is still escaping the trunk:(
I'm thinking the box needs to be all the way up to the seats and truck sealed tighter
what the hell did I do wrong? thanks in advance.
Also feel free to flame my hack job but please give some advice. I've never done a sealed trunk like this before

Couldn't be further from the truth. U said "Trunks should be subs back" so that means all trunks.

No it dosent what? You sure the lancer should be sub back? So your saying you have tryed all the possible combinations in a lancer

Positive the sub should be sub back. If it wasnt it would have got better not worse.

Sleaze seal off the box bro. There could be stuck air on the sides. Idk just guessing.

regardless, just help the guy. it seems that most people do sub back in a trunk.. get better weather stripping and deaden the trunk the right way. also run a ported box for better output

There could be a million things wrong. Maybe it was wired wrong at the amp, box space is to small/big and just makes things more noticeable facing the cabin, the back wave is being reduced, etc.

We all know it sounded better sub back as the op stated. It does not mean its the answer to his problem
op- You can try sealing off the trunk at the baffle when firing into the cabin. The wall thing is a waste. Its not even really sealed off due to the trunk arms. Id try a different enclosure in general

im not expert on this since i own an suv, but from what ive seen most setups that do a wall are because the box is so big it ideally needs to be pointed frontwards. without sealing off the sides of your box you're doing like a half wall kinda thing, I think that may be your problem. pulling the subs forward a bit might help too.

Im gonna move it all the way up and tighten it up like frogs azz. If that.doesnt work then I might try some type of new encloser with a blow through into the arm rest.
If all that fails then idk. Deaden the rest of the trunk and re fire at the back :crap:

If i ported these how much of a difference would it make with jl's in a trunk?

You should have sealed off at the front of the box, not back. Sealing it off will help your upper end response(good for burping), but will more often than not hurt your low end output. You should have just done a ported box and fired everything towards the rear...more than likely would have worked out much better.

fixed:)
I re fired them at the trunk but with three pieces of MDF wrapped around the back gate so the 10's had a nice surface to bounce off. I also deadened and foamed the rest of the trunk and holes and now it sounds about 5 db louder then original.
he'll be pretty happy and i leaned some new sht
