View Full Version : 6.5" separates with most BASS?

The title might be a bit misleading, but...


I am in the market for a pair of high-quality 6.5" separates for the front of my small car.

My goal is to have good SQ with lots of punch and good/low bass since I won't be able to use a sub in this car - 4 front speakers only! I like to listen to it loud with the windows down on deserted back roads...if you get the picture :D

Price isn't a major factor but I would like to stay under $1000 for the speaker set.

In a pinch I could probably build custom mounts to fit 7" drivers in the doors but I don't think 8" drivers will fit.

So...can you guys please offer up some qualified suggestions?

Going Active? With a $1000 price limit just on speakers your going to have a sick set of mids. I use Image Dynamics X69s and they absolutely get down without any deadening. I have no issues shaking my rear view mirror with them crossed at 80hz/18dB.

Yes! I should have mentioned that ;) I will use a high quality amp, likely in the 75W x 2 range.

Pick up the CDT Audio HD-62AS 6.5" comp set and upgrade the mids to ES 06 Extended Bass Midwoofers.

go with the x69's 727kid recommended over the cdt's.

They sound quite a bit better that cdt's IMO.
