Hi I'm Jack,

I just bought a system from a good friend for $300 all alpine
I'll post what I have:

2x SWR-1522D

-- SPR-69C
-- SPR-17S

-- MRP-M2000
-- MRP-F300

-- Boxworx Ported box

-- Stinger 1.0 Farad.(<--- guess im selling this then lol!)

i forgot to add
Stinger- Sound Quest 250A fuse In a sound quest Fuse holder.(0 Gauge wire)

I have no head yet guys :( Don't know what to buy. look for something cheap but not sacrificing sound. Any ideas?

(Just bought yesterday Haven't installed the system yet)

What's your budget -ish on HU?

And do not use the capacitor. Will not help you. Sell it on craigslist and put the money toward your HU :)

Here's (http://www.nanopulser.com.sg/capacitor.htm) the traditional reference for capacitors. Read (even if just near the bottom) and you will be enlightened :)

Welcome to the forum!

thats a pretty good buy for 300, but id ditch the cap. youll get bashed on here for that.

Thanks for the heads up. I mean its like $2300 dollars worth of stuff. for $300. so i was happy. And im looking to spend like 200-300$ maybe less?

You can get something very good for that. Single or Double DIN?

See this is when it comes into me being a "noobie" (;

Double din is like 4 inches tall, single is like 2 inches tall. what kind of car and how big is the stereo opening?

03-01-2011, 10:31 PM
oh lol. what car do you have? DIN is the standard stereo size; a lot of cars have a double DIN unit:

Here's (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_21991_JVC-KD-HDR60.html) an example single DIN, and

Here's (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_22418_Pioneer-AVH-P3200DVD.html) a double DIN I would get for that price.

lol not necessarily the single DIN I'd get, just a reference for size :)

Its an old 1988 Ford taurus that I'm fixing up(only 26k miles on it Rofl). I'm pretty sure it can fit the double din.

Go here and it will tell you :D

Car Selector (http://www.crutchfield.com/app/car/carselector.aspx?lp=/App/Car/outfitmycar/MyCar.aspx)

Its Standard with a single DIN (I think)

03-01-2011, 10:51 PM
Might be ISO-DIN (like 1.5 DIN) in which case you'll use an install kit and get a cute little pocket probably. I dunno loads about the recent single DINs, been doing my research on Doubles :) with that budget you can get a very nice single din though. I will allow others who know more to intervene

:P Well I'll prob. get some one to install it. So ill just pay them to get the kit. Still amazed i got the system for that cheap though. Sounded great in his car. No ware, coils are great.

But a good buy nevertheless

Yeah that is a crazy deal :) You have an awesome friend.

And HU installs are cake. We can help walk you through it and save you some money :D

So what head should i go with guys?

03-02-2011, 11:47 PM
That would be amazing! I got the system installation price. It was like 50$ for the head not including the kid. 80$ an amp, 40$ per pair of speakers, 60$ for subs. that all comes to a **** ton. So IDK what to do :/

03-03-2011, 12:03 AM
Lol there is a lot of knowledge on this forum. We can help you with the install; depending on how comfortable you are with taking your car apart, the amps would probably be the trickiest thing.

If you order a HU from Sonicelectronix or crutchfield, they usually include the mounting kit and harness (which saved me $30) so that's something to think about.
Do some research on installing stuff; crutchfield.com has some helpful videos. Time for me to sleep  If no one has laid out the basics by tomorrow morning/afternoon I'll explain how the installation of stuff usually goes; by no means do I know everything but I'll do my best to help you out :)

headunit is the easiest install ever, just splice some wires and that's about it. Well...with all the kits then it might get expensive fast.

Mmkay so:

HU install usually consists of

-joining wires of new HU's harness to adapter harness (soldering is best)
-mounting new HU in kit with screws
-removing old HU
-plugging RCAs into new HU
-routing USB/iPod/aux. cables from the back of new HU to glovebox, center console, wherever you want them
-mounting kit w/new HU in car, plug adapter harness into car's connector

I am absolutely certain you can do this yourself. Amp install is more complicated:

-Run new fat power wire from battery through a rubber grommet in the firewall, route to desired location in car
-Fuse power wire near battery
-Run RCAs to desired location, away from power wire
-Run speaker wire from desired location to doors/subwoofer, away from power wire
-Get speaker wire through doors - you can either run the new speaker wire through the rubber boot into the door, or tap into the stock speaker wiring just before the door.
-Mount amp using screws or velcro or straps or magical wizardry
-Ground amp to chassis (or back to battery)
-Connect everything (using distro blocks if multiple amps) tune amp
-Put car back together

The hardest part of installing an amp is usually figuring out how to pull the car apart. Since yours is an 88, things should be significantly easier. If you do choose to try it yourself, we can help you if you have questions. Forums for your car are a very valuable source of information when attempting these things.
