i just thought it would be cool for people to list the first system they ever had.

heres mine...its nothing at all...just gets me by...

old sony headunit (40x4) / 10 cd changer
-(2) Pioneer 6-1/2" 4-Way Speakers 220 Watts Max. Power (doors)
-(2) MTX 6-1/2" Components (rear)
-Dual - 10 Single-Voice-Coil 1000W Bandpass Subwoofer System
-Dual - 460W 2-Channel Bridgeable MOSFET Amplifier

every1 prolly gonna say dual blows but i like it. 100$ for all the dual stuff was a great deal. it sounds great to me (only other thing i heard was a 12" audiobahm and a 1000+ amp..it was louder but sounded crappy...im more into sq anywho)

GO GO GO!

Alpine CDA-9815

I had a cheap Alpine HU... a Kenwood 2 channel 600 watt amp, 2 10" Kenwood Tonados in some cheap prefabed boxes, and some Polk 4x6 speakers. I blew the hell out of the subs/spekaers and kept getting new ones cuz I had a 3 year warranty on everything I must have replaced them 6 or 7 times.

It was the year 1986 and I had just gotten my drivers license and my first car which just happended to be a 1979 Ford Pinto. I had a Pioneer KEH-7272 which played casestte tapes and had a supertuner II. In the rear deck was a pair of Pioneer TS-6907 6x9s which were handed down to me from my older brother. Not much bass but it sure got loud...........mmmmmmmmmmmmm good times.

My first soundsystem was a joke, but it was a 15" radioshack 8 ohm sub on a crunch amp... the box was... honest to God, a metal trashcan. One of the funniest looks I've gotten to date was from my physics teacher as he walked by when I was putting my bags in my car :) :help: :tomatofac :banghead:

My first soundsystem resided in my now defunct 83 Chevy C-10 pickup :fart: . It had an Audiovox :smash: tape headunit (that ate every tape it ever played), two Audiovox dual cone speakers that rattled, four single cone 4x6 speakers wired under the seats, 2 mismatched 6' 3 way speakers, and an 8" speaker with a magnet on it the size of a stack of four quarters. Everything was neatly installed by the good old magnetisim and electrical tape. I had no idea how to hook anything up and probably did it all off of one channel of the HU. If it quit working, I just had to hit the dashboard really hard. The way it sounded... Was unimagineably bad :scared: but it was loud, though impossibly distorted.

First I remember, was in my Mom's 94 Escort. First time I ever got my hands on it. Powered the factory speakers with a Pyramid 2 channel amp and had a set of old school DEI 10" subs in a bandpass box.

I powered everything off this 2 channel amp.. using the left channel for all the speakers and the right channel for the subs.

Lmao.. sounded like ****.

This was back in 1991:

Really old school Sony CD player. I think it was the first one! I loved that thing :(

A pair of JBL tweeters
4" Altec Lansing mids
10" Crunch subs, changed to a within a month JL12w5
Autotek Amp 22x2 (also loved that amp!)
kenwood 35x2 power the mids and highs

That was my first system I every had. I installed everything myself because my dad told me I could do it if I looked at it long enough :) I built a custom enclosure to fit in my 1991 B2200 truck that was tuned to 28hz for the 12w5. I was so proud of that box. I still am to this day. I really wish I kept that Autotek amp. It was an incredible amp. The 12w5 later ended up in my friends Baja Shooter. Ah.. memories.

my first system (and i still have a lot of the stuff) was an old sony (the first one with the rotary knob volume on it) cd player, infinity reference 4X6 rear, and 6.5 fronts, two kicker comp 12's, a fosgate punch 75(the old one that was actually good). i ran the infinity's off the deck. all this in a 92 ranger... hell, the boxes made me have to sit closer to the wheel, cause i couldnt slide the seat all the way back.

Pioneer DEH-1300
Road Gear 20x2@4ohm (doubt it even does 20w)
Stock speakers from a BMW 3-series
2 8" Pioneer in a small leaky sealed box.
Didn't even have a LPF on the amp.

Still today i have everything, except one 8" chopped up. I still use the road gear. Currently it is powering the 2 speakers and a 10w6 for now. Still have no LPF. Going from 800w+ down to <20w *****. :D

people do get surprise though. the 10w6 really sounds louder than I had expected.

Hmmm, FIRST system

-JVC 40x4 tape deck(the only cool thing about it is it talked....literally, it had a voice built in that would say ****).
-Pioneer 4x6s in front(still have em....:()
-Pioneer 4x10s in rear(still have these too, but they aren't blown)
-Promax 150 watt MAX amp(yeah......i know)
-1 10" MTX 4000 in a prefab truck box.

After dealing with that crap for a while i stepped up...well sorta

-added another 10" 4000 in a truck box i built out of 5/8" particle board(leaked terribly and rattled, it was sealed with silicone and a hot glue gun :hilarious: )
-got a MTX Blue Thunder Pro 150x2 which REALLY helped things out tremendously.

JimJ
01-31-2006, 12:55 PM
wtf?

Class A all-vacuum tube single ended triode amplifier.

Did around 2wpc, but it liked low impedance (2 ohm) loads and my speakers weren't really efficient enough or low in impedance enough to suit it well. It would drive a dead short - I placed speaker wire across the terminals and it ran hot, but tried to drive it :)

Raven

Tube amps are known for that. I'm almost certain my tube amp is short stable, but I'm not about to actually test it long enough to be sure.

No Joke, I think they are for a short period of time, until.... I dont even want to say it....

JimJ
01-31-2006, 01:07 PM
It's funny that they'll drive a short, but once you turn it on without a load connected, gooooodbye output transformers. They don't like open circuits at all, will saturate the secondaries of the OPT's before you can yell "Oh ****!".

Kenwood X889
Dynaudio system 260 (8" midbass/1.1" tweet) Front comps
Orion 8004 (4 channel) powering the front comps
Directed 1500D for the sub
One Stereo Integrity 15" MAG D2 (ordering this week)
Kicker interconnects x3
Rockford fosgate 15guage for comps
Audiopipe Platinum battery terminals (+ and -) (0 guage/4 guage/2- 8 guage each)
Audiobahn 0 guage power line (from battery to trunk)
Stinger Fused Distribution box
Audiobahn 4 guage power lines (from fused distribution box to each amp)
Audiobahn 4 guage grounds (from amps to chassis)
Audiobahn 4 guage speaker lines (from 1500D to MAG D2)

Not too shabby for a first system.

The Vega series were made to be ported for optimum output, not sealed. I have read many posts that discouraged sealing them. If you made a box and ported them, I know you would have loved them more!;)
