For the next week or so till I quit, I'm a installer at #123, Tucson, AZ.
Any idea on what installers at your store make? Reason why I'm quiting is they won't pay me more than $7.70 an hour when I can go any where else and easily make $10+.

02-05-2004, 10:11 AM
experience... and knowledge on the subject usually... some places may require more though i don't know
02-05-2004, 10:11 AM
wasnt sure if they required that one type of certification (cant think of it). do u install at circuit city?
02-05-2004, 10:13 AM
MECP certification... and yes i install at circuit city
02-05-2004, 10:14 AM
yea thats it... do u think its a requirement at either place? im guessing you have to be 18+ also?
02-05-2004, 10:16 AM
it's not required at either place don't think... gotta go... tornado's comin haha... later

Must provide all your own tools at any place.
Doesn't require MECP when hired, but you need to get it within a year of being hired. Must be Bestbuy certified within a month.

im MECP certifried work at Dr Dashboard (shop specializing in custom installation and security) and make 7.50 an hour doing remote start and security work...Its bullshit..Ill be quitting in the next couple weeks.

gah not tryin 2 be mean or anything but that sux... you could get paid better at circuit city
02-05-2004, 06:27 PM
what is the MECP certification over exactally?
02-05-2004, 07:44 PM
I realize it ***** and that is why i am quitting. We do awesome work and my boss is a **** cheapskate and is screwing us all over.
And the MECP certification test is over DC/AC electronics, security, cellular, wiring, safety, and installation questions. Its really not all that hard, but some parts get pretty specific. I am about to go and take my security specialists test. Go to http://www.mecp.com/ and you can take a practice exam. That will give ya an idea.

lots of stuff... volts... watts... ohms... lots of electrical stuff... you can check it all out on their website tho... i took a lil practice test a month or 2 ago but i can't find the link 2 it again haha

will circuit city or best buy pay for exam fees?
02-06-2004, 11:08 PM
i hear they pay for your first one.. but if you fail they do not pay for any more haha
