View Full Version : Good Midbass drivers for $100 a pair?

I'm working on a three way front stage and wanted some opinions on good midbass drivers for 100 or less for a pair. I'm looking at running them between 60hz and 250hz. Biggest drivers I can fit are 7s, they're going in the doors which are deadened and sealed. I been looking at the Dayton rs180 and the Elemental Designs e3.6. Any thoughts or opinions are appreciated thanks

one question though aren't those more midrange drivers than midbass? or do they do well 60-200 hz

Yeah, they're midrange drivers. I can't tell you much of anything about them other than they're built pretty well. I haven't done anything other than take them out of the box to look at them and snap a few pics.

The offer's on the table. If you want to give them a shot it's up to you. If not, that's cool too. I'll sell or use them eventually...

hmmm how bout this idea... my comps are pg rsd65 which do have great midbass but are a little lacking in the midrange, what if i used the pg mids for the midbass and the cdts for midrange how ya think that would sound?

No clue, bro. I honestly haven't heard these CDT's. I picked them up a month or so back and they've just been sitting here since then. I actually plan to buy a crossover for them on monday. I planned to play around with them a little then...

I ended up buying those cdts from misfit. (great guy to deal with by the way) It was a good deal and with the rsds having such good midbass I'm going to experiment with the CDTs in the midrange I'm guessing they'll sound a little better in that range than the pgs but guess I'll just have to wait and see

The Seleniums actually have more output from 250hz down than my Hertz HSK mids. And this is with 1/2 the power. They will play much lower, down to around 50-60hz with ease where my Hertz wouldnt.

And this is a direct drop in. Same vehicle, same doors, same condition, same amp, same radio, etc.

So I hooked up those CDTs and they do sound great but I just can't get the midbass in the 60-200ish range that I'm looking for... I listen to mainly rock so I'm really looking for great drum hits. I looked at the peerless sls 6.5 someone suggested and the seleniums. how do these compare to the Dayton rs180 or the ED e3.6 or anymore suggestions? I only need them to play the small frequency band from 50 or 60 up to 200 to 250hz. Oh and for power I have 100 watts at 4 ohms to each speaker. Thanks again everyone

Peerless SLS 6.5' (http://www.madisound.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=8234)s in that frequency and price range. /thread.

The Dayton RS180's are pretty good in the midbass region as well, but from what I've read they're a bit limited on output (but not enough to take away from the overall quality of them). The ed6.5's are not very good midbass drivers at all. You'd be better off going with the tang band equivalents.

Sorry, but those Seleniums ****!

I have a pair and was very disappointed by them. 1 has a hole in it, drill slipped, but was siliconed from behind and sounds just as it would w/o it. I'm looking to sell the set- Cheap too.

These are what I'd use, wait, it IS what I use and I'd put them up against the HAT L6's.

From what I've read, it is VERY impressive. They handle power nicely and great output. If you're willing to pay for them and have the room to mount them, I'd say get the EX-Anarchys instead.

Here's (http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/member-product-reviews/78514-exodus-ex-anarchy-midwoofer.html)a review from DIYMA.

Well exactly, I just feel it doesn't complete the setup if you run two different brand amps. However, if it were something realllly nice, id reconsider.

Have you heard anything good on cactus Sounds amps? They have a 300.1 that puts out 1700 rms at 1 ohm....cheater amp.

To me, it looks like an aq amp with a cactus logo slapped on, and beefier internals inside.
