I would like to upgrade my front speakers but really don't want to run another amp. So what speakers have you guys used that you were surprisingly pleased with, when powered by your head unit? I am currently using some sweet Kicker 07DS600 which are legions better than the stock speakers, but still not quite cutting it.

So what do you guys think?

P.S. This isn't a WTB thread, I just want suggestions. Thanks anyway.

Sorry they are the Kicker DS650, and I guess I just need a pair of coaxes.

Yeah, trust me I ran my speakers (polk db651's) off of my headunit for a while before i finally purchased an amp. While they did sound better than stock, they still sounded like **** compared to now. And they're only rated for 60wRMS.

Just buy another amp.

I already have another amp, but thanks for the post ***** post. I don't want to install the amp because the only place it will fit is under the front seat and I really don't want it there. I just got the mono amp out of there.

So Back to my original question, any set of coaxes that would be decent (I know it won't be as good as it would be if an amp was installed) when only being powered by the HU. Seriously, everybody here uses an amp to power their speakers? Anybody?

Well if you run them off the HU alone, then you're most likely going to clip the **** out of them if you turn it to where it's even slightly loud, so yeah

ya i use an amp to power all my speakers, 2 2channel in my car plus my mono, my moms car about to put a 4 channel in her car, and a 2 channel for bass

I ran my pioneer premier 720 prs comps for a while before I bought an amp and they sounded PHENOMENAL just off of hu power...I couldnt really believe how amazing they sound.....but then again they are rated at 50 watts rms ......trust me you will be satisfied....

Yes, retard. Unless you want another ghetto banger with a bunch of subs in the trunk and stock door speakers like every other noob. Stop being lazy.

Dude! FCK OFF Still! You piece of *****! I clearly explained my reason for not wanting to install an amp. Laziness has nothing to do with it. You obviously can't read so stop sh!tting on my thread. It's a simple question exclusively for people who have (and were satisfied) or are running aftermarket speakers off of the HU. If you haven't done it then your opinion means nothing to me.

And thank you Big Six, I will take the premiers into consideration. Anybody else?

look for some efficient speakers, with a db rating of 90 or better, that sound good to you. most below a rating of 90 will not sound good. Focal & Hertz have good db ratings

i dont know if you're on a budget or not, but seing that u have sub(s), I'd recommend a set of Kenwood KFC-1662s (http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KFC1662/Kenwood-KFC-1662S.html?search=kenwood+kfc-1662s&ssi=0) nice low powered speakers, crystal midrange and highs, midbass isn't all that strong, but coming from someone that has amped them, there isn't much difference compared to running of HU...and they're cheap lol

just go to walmart browwwww.

ill vouch for the pioneers though, youll be spending a few bucks though. im using the 170 comps for home audio atm with about 30 rms and its loud :D

ps get a baby oldschool amp and put it in your glove box lazy azz ;)

i have those same Phoenix Gold's except mine are rsd5 and they rock. I have a matching set of 6x9's in the rear and they actually bump on certain songs...my amp will be here in a week hopefully i get even more out of them. Idk a whole lot about car audio but i know what sounds good and what doesn't and those PG's are the Real McCoy.

I haven't used my headunit to power my car speakers for the last 8 years. I'm almost thinking about building a boombox from a headunit and some speakers.

The Hybrid's? You can run them off HU power no problem.
