Is the SSA Xcon a good sub? I'm looking for SPL. Was about to order 2 12inch HDC3's then I found the XCON(Why do i always find new stuff lol). I've been told to put a 21 inch(random/huge size) incriminator death penalty in the car, but I'm not thinking I can fit it in my trunk of the grand prix. Everytime I get so close to ordering something, I find something else. Anyone got any info on the XCON?

I have personally never heard one before, but from what ive read online and through different forums its a pretty decent sub. More geared towards SQ than SPL but can put up some good numbers in the right enclosure. On the other hand, I have heard a few IA DP setups and if SPL is what you want while still sounding good, then your decision should be already made, plus Nicks a cool guy, give him a call. If you cant fit a 21 then go for a 18 or maybe 2 15s. Just my $0.05 :)

Well I got $700-$750 to deal with before building the box.

whoa, lol.

you could also go with a couple 15" dc level 5's, 15" sundown nightshdes(also in ssa store), or a couple of DD's (im not too familiar with dd, so idk what model)

or just tryout the xcons and right a review on here about them. they look pretty nice.

what amp are you going to be running?

How much power will you have on tap? that will help us determine what subs to suggest

sweet amp. i would just go with the xcons because there right in ur price range.

the nightshades and omegas are a little more than ur budget

but u might want to check the prices on a pair of DC level 5's

Level 4XL's would be more appropriate for that power. The Xcon's get very loud and also sound very nice. Hard to go wrong with them. They'll do almost anything you want them to.

If budget can handle it, 2 15's would would be SLIGHTLY more surface area (almost the same as a 21") but would probably be A LOT easier to get into your trunk.

HDC3's, DD 3500, or Xcons would all work. With the HDC3 and DD doing slightly better tuned in the mid-upper 30's. The Xcon tuned lower (closer to 30hz).

What kinda space do you have in cubic feet?

maverickdog8

I have like 6-6.5 cubic feet that I want to use. I need to have room for the amp and 2 batteries in the trunk as well.

I've never even considered building a wall. I would have no idea where to start. I build boxes, but a wall seems like a completely different story.

3cuft ea could work, though most 15's mentioned if not all would enjoy closer to 4cuft ea.

Level 4XL's may work out pretty well. Fi BL's also come to mind.

Take out the backseats and use the trunk and backseat, from floor to ceiling. Have to build it in the car obviously, but not overly hard. The worst part is expanding foam everywhere. You could probably have room for 2 18's if you did this. But it takes its toll on the car since the foam and 100's of lbs become part of it. Can be hard to get completely out.

okay. that might be fun and worth trying.

haha yeah the only thing you lose is passenger room and rearview mirror usage if you go all the way to the ceiling.

And any semblance of handling if your vehicle isn't made for that kind of weight...

My tone was far from literal :)

Good point nonetheless.

I have a 4 door grand prix. I hope the rear suspension will be able to handle a wall. Its a passenger car so it should be able to.

The xcons are ****** subs. One of the best sounding subs out there. I had some 15's and now have 18's and I love them.

They get loud as fuc, but they are not an outright SPL sub. Honestly if you are competing there are better options, but if this is a daily ground pounder you would be hard pressed to find better.

I am looking for something for daily and competition. I am aiming for 150+db, but for $700ish and a 3k amp im not getting my hopes to high.

If you are seriously looking for 150 with 3k on tap I would look into 2 hdc3 18's or possibly 4 sdc2.5 15's if you are gonna wall your grand prix, both tuned around 38 with at least 16^2 inches of port per foot of box space.

For 150+ and ~3krms to work with, surface area and efficiency are your best friends.

On the other hand sundownz just hit over 150 with 2 SA-8's being well overpowered lol. It's definitely possible. Tuning higher will help, so will port size.

I believe jacob did a 150 with one of those 8's, But in no way would that setup play music or work daily, Highly impressive as that is, I think the OP would like to play some music to blow his friends away:veryhapp:

Not so much blow my friends away, as much as shut up a local memphis dealer who claims 2 mojos on 4k in a box tuned to 37hz will shut anything anyone local has got. I don't know what it hits, but I'm aiming for 150+ cuz odds are...it doesn't hit 150's.

obviously this is all install dependant w/e you end up going with, but the XCON's will work great for what you are looking to do. :)

xcons or dc level 4xl's and a lot of dampening material
