View Full Version : Convert GM 4 ohm and 2 ohm Factory Speakers to 6 ohm???????

Howdy audio pros, this is a question coming from a guy who knows nothing about audio systems and car stereos! So have mercy :) I've got a 2000 Buick Regal with the factory GM Monsoon stereo system. I've gone thru the original and now a replacement set of rear speakers, they keep blowing. I don't listen that loud, but for some reason they don't last. I'm sick of the factory GM ones. It's a strange setup in the rears, a 2 ohm midrange and then a 4 ohm 6x9 paired together. Might be common in newer GM stuff, but never seen it before myself. Now here's my question: Is it possible to get decent aftermarket speakers to use in place of the factory replacement crap? Can I just get one 6 ohm speaker or whatever and ditch the 2 speaker 2ohm/4ohm setup? Is that possible? Can you guys give me some options? I know impedance/ohms are important, but I don't know what my options are or what to do. Can I put a 6 ohm or 8 ohm in the place of that setup? Thanks!!!!!!
