A bandpass box usually consists of 1 sealed box and 1 ported box. The woofers are mounted into the sealed box like normal, and fire into the ported box. Basically the ported box is tuned so that only a certain small range of freaquencies can pass through. Usually they are built to make a small range of freaquencies really loud. They can be made to produce really low freaquencies as well. In my experience, they do play really loud, but sound like butt. Lots of wierd port noises and stuff. They can look really cool, and get loud though. I would say go for a ported box though...still get a little increase in volume, but much better SQ.

there are quit e number of bandpass around. 4th order is a sealed and ported box. 6th order is where both are ported. I'm sure there' an 8th and all, but i dunno too much about them.
Bandpass, cause there's a roll on and a roll off with the frequencies.
