View Full Version : The $500 dollar 4 15's build

skadude016

I'll start it off by saying I wanted to do a large build on a low budget. And I figure 500 for wire, amp, and subs is a pretty low budget build.

The box will be 18.4 cubes before all displacements. And will have interchangeable ports. With no port plug in it is tuned to 53hz with 328 sq. inches of port. I plan on building a 32hz and 44hz tuned port. I will be redoing my highs and mids also at a later date.

The subs are 4 15" Crunch GPV D2 subs (Yeah yeah I know "Crunch?! WTF DOOD?! You should of got a BTLLEVEL5NightShadeMT!?" But I done those before why do the same old thing? The amp is a single Audiopipe 15001D (yup no more than 1500 watts for all 4 subs!)

Onto the build!

I've been wanting to do the same thing. That was the budget I was gonna use too, but I didnt' think I could find that much sub for that; besides the fact that 4 15's aint gonna fit in my trunk. Interested to see how loud you can get it. We should have a $500 shoot-out. Lol.

I thought about posting up a $500 "challenge," but there is really no way to verify the prices that people pay since it will most likely be used equipment. Lord knows you can't trust ca junkies. Lol. Then again, it's not like it's for the world championship and a million dollars. Hmm, maybe I'll get a trophy made up...

Agreed. You could always require them to purchase them brand new and not allow "insider discounts." That way even the newbs can read through it and use google to buy products. Would make suggesting based on budgets a bit easier :fyi:

The only prob with requiring new products is that nobody is gonna want to spend 5 bills on stuff that only costs 5 bills. You know what I mean? Lol. We'll just have to use the honor system or fair market value to be eligible for the big bad *** trophy I am gonna get made :)

Speaking of which... where are YOUR reciepts? Lol.

Ya I actually thought about those Pyramids but I was wanting something that came with a warranty in case I blew my subs up and Maxxsonics CS is easy to work with. These subs are 700rms each so if I wanted to I could throw another AP1500 on them, we shall see how they like the wattage they get with just one amp for now.

Good job, cant wait to see more pics Jared!
Thanks Fozz! Hopefully it turns out well. If they are successful in this build I think I may do a 4th order wall in the future.

I purchased all the subs and the amp new online. All come with warranties. I am huge on buying used but truth is used they aren't much less and don't come with a warranty.

nice budget build looks like its still gonna get pretty loud though....i'd say 145's all day.....but i've owned this old flea market 2chan 1000wt crunch amp for about 3 years and its still kickin...(best amp i've ever owned lol)....i've even had it wired at 1ohms bridged and beat on it for days, and it's still goin strong...(i've got a hifonics 2000brutus just chillin in my room, and i'd still never sell this lil amp...lol

Overall I am very impressed with this build. If I had to guess its in the 147-148 range at around 40-45hz. This is based on past installs and what not. I believe there is room for improvement as far as adding another ap1500. Or possibly changing over to different subs and adding the ap1500. But for a 500 dollar build off 1500ish watts it plays very loud from 30-60hz.

Comment away!

UPDATE:

apparently one of the woofers came from Crunch bad. Seems as though it was hitting the backplate with quite alot of force. I think the spider assembly had a defect. I sent the woofer back and got a new one. Night and day difference! It has become extremely violent. Seems like the bad woofer was working against all of the good woofers. I put it on the meter today and all sealed up its now doing a 149.7 and with the door open does a 153 flat. I still need to fine tune it all but my budget build seems to be on its way to breaking a 150 like I had hoped!

Oh and I was beating on it coming home and its about a 30 min drive playing some DECAF mixed music and got home and the subs were barely warm. I cannot believe how well this has turned out. I need to borrow my bro's digicam and drive out to the middle of nowhere and get lots of vids.

Anyways comment if you would like

Much respect on doing this build, Sir!

Seriously makes me want to try the same thing, and I think I will this Summer. Just to do a comparison and see just how bad I can make myself feel for spending so much money and running so much power.

I'll do a straight drop in in my same box with subs that are half the RMS rating I currenlty run and an amp with either half or more, less power.

VERY nice once again, and I'd like to see some vids real bad too!

Hey yall not on here much but I put another AP1500 in and it gained a few db's. Running into a wall as far as gaining. I think the Jeep has a large air leak in the rear hatch area. So final tally is right at 650 not bad for a 150+ db ground pounder! Done tons of demos with it and it always seems to start out with the non believers saying Crunch S ucks blah blah. They tend to shut up when they hear it though lol. If my job situation pans out like I am planning I am working on 2 ap3000's and 4 15's (undecided) in a 4th order wall. Any suggestions on woofers?

Anyways ya Bigbang you will have to get that build going i'd like to see it!

I like seeing builds in ZJs. I've had a problem with mine... It seems like with every sub stage I try, I can't get them to play the lows. I don't know if 600 watts isn't enough power (when I had the amp in my car, my subs played fairly low), or if the Jeep has a high resonant frequency. Anyway, awesome work on that.

I had that issue also. The box in there now will do a 151 @ 36hz and a 143 @ 28hz. IT does quite well on the lows. I have found that bigger boxes usually do the trick. I had a 12" RE MT in a 4 cube box tuned to 32hz and it got down extremely low. Made my steering wheel shake like crazy.

I would have gone bigger, but the max size for a 15" Type R is 2.5 cubes sealed. That's what I'm at right now. I guess I could add some polyfill to see if that helps any.

I had lower tuned ported boxes in there as well and it seems like nothing will do it. The sealed has provided the best overall tonality so far. I like it the best for my normal listening habits. It has the best frequency response out of any of my boxes so far too.

5 cubes tuned to 28hz with 70 sq. inches of port would be great for that sub and that jeep

I'll take that into consideration if I ever choose to switch boxes again. I don't know if keeping the back seats and the spare tire (possibly going to be a 31" tire in the future) would work well with that though...

I do appreciate that input though.

screw spare tires! You have friends and a cell phone right? They can just bring you a tire
