What would be the ideal volume for 1 Alpine Type R (SWR - 1242D) Subwoofer.
Thanks

ported or sealed?
go on alpine's website and download the owner's manual if you don't already have a copy.

Sealed, with a max depth of about 8 inchs with an angled back if that helps. i tried looking on the alpine site and the owners manual on the alpine site and i couldnt find much info at all regarding the recommended enclosure size for them. if you could get a link for me that would be great?
Thanks

If you go ported.
2 - 2.5 cubic Ft after displacement. 32-35hz tuning.
I only tried ported with my pair in multiple boxes. I like LOUD.

Thats the new style, he is asking about the old style. OP, to be honest, I wouldnt even bother sealing up a Type R. I hated mine sealed, it didnt sound any better and wasnt loud at all. I then put it in 2.3 cubes at 34hz and it sounded decent and got hella loud for an 80 dollar sub

The only way to do a wedge enclosure with 8" maximum depth is to build the box extremely wide or tall. For example:
height - 14"
width - 30"
depth 1 - 8"
depth 2 - 6"
That'd be 1.13 cubes before displacement and I'm not even sure the sub would fit.

i was thinking of making the box fairly wide. my max top depth is 6inch and my max bottom depth is 11inch? does that make things easier?

i have scribbled some figures together and this is what i came up with, however i think these number would only work for a sealed box.
Height: 14inch
Width: 37inch
Top Depth: 6inch
Bottom Depth: 9.5inch
And if my calcumalations are correct that gives 2.32cubic feet in volume???
Is this Correct?
Thanks
