Using an old shirt to stretch over my enclosure..

I plan on using an old shirt to stretch over an amp enclosure I'm working on. Just as I had started to glue it down, I realized that you're supposed to use a certain blend of cotton/poly. Or at least I think I remember hearing that somewhere. Does it matter if it is 100% cotton? or does it have to be a blend of cotton/poly?
