carpenter's wood glue where the pieces of wood meet and that is white silicone caulking that you see in the pics

Blue Fury - what's wrong with the 1" ports?

bubbagumper6
01-13-2010, 09:33 AM
Is that 1.3 cubes total? Or 1.3 cubes on each side?

That doesn't seem like enough port area...you might get some noise

jcjcsoccerkid
01-13-2010, 09:49 AM
1.3 cubes total, which is what boston recommended for a ported box

bubbagumper6

1.3 cubes total, which is what boston recommended for a ported box

Yeah but that recommendation is for one sub...you have two. So that enclosure should be 1.3 cubes in each chamber (2.6 total)

jcjcsoccerkid
01-13-2010, 10:08 AM
**** my bad, it IS 1.3 per chamber, so 2.6 total...sorry about that. are the ports still too small?

bubbagumper6
01-13-2010, 11:00 AM
**** my bad, it IS 1.3 per chamber, so 2.6 total...sorry about that. are the ports still too small?

They are a bit on the small side...only 8 square inches per cube, the usual recommendation is like 12-16. But that doesn't necessarily mean you will have port noise, but you might :crap:

jcjcsoccerkid
01-13-2010, 11:10 AM
well what if i moved both edges over 3/4" (the thickness of the wood). would that take away too much airspace from each chamber? or would that work better

It'll affect the tuning of the box...what's it tuned to right now?

If you change the port or box volume, you'll affect the tuning...you can't really change anything without redesigning it and calculating what effect it will have.

You have went this far, put it together and see how it sounds.

Worse case scenario, it sounds like *** and you have to rebuild another box.

jcjcsoccerkid
01-13-2010, 12:26 PM
yep we'll see, if it sounds bad, then i already have a little experience building a box :D

also did the big 3 upgrade and installed a 125amp alternator from a 96 nissan quest 3.0L

big 3 wires and amp wiring kit on my truck
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c127/jcjcsoccerkid/DSC00092.jpg

here's number 1 and 2 of the big 3. this is the battery negative to chassis and engine block to chassis. major size difference. i used 1/0 welding cable for these.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c127/jcjcsoccerkid/DSC00096.jpg

i drilled a hole in the inner fender and ran a bolt thru and secured the 2 cables with a lock washer and nut. this will have to be relocated when i bag the front b/c the fenders have to be cut out. but it will work for now.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c127/jcjcsoccerkid/DSC00098.jpg

here's the 3rd of the big 3. batter positive to alternator.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c127/jcjcsoccerkid/DSC00102.jpg

and here it is connected to the new alternator...
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c127/jcjcsoccerkid/DSC00103.jpg

this 3-phase project turned out great. (box build/system install, big 3 upgrade, new alternator install). the system is quite loud and sounds very clean. i have the subs wired at 1ohm so i have to be careful with the volume knob. it sounds very nice.

i got the alternator tested at advance auto parts 1 week after installation. 14.12v at idle and 14.05v under load. also, absolutely zero headlight flickering when the system hits.

next up is gettting crossovers and amplifying the door speakers. i already have the amp, just gotta get the crossovers. then comes sound deadening.

all input/opinions are welcome

jcjcsoccerkid

my dad calls me a punk all the time cause i drive a purple lowered truck, and me putting loud speakers in my truck just reinforced his opinion haha. all the things i'm into aren't his style at all, but he is always happy to help me with my projects, and i'm very grateful of that.

and nope, no port noise at all, just a LOT of air blowing against the back of my arm when i'm driving :D

here's another pic and a short video. i'm not really sure how to film a system in action, so if you have any tips of how to do it better next time then let me know. also i'm not sure why it's so fuzzy. oh well, you get the idea

That's random you're from picayune, I got stranded there about 7 years ago when my car broke down. Being stuck 1000 miles from home when you're 18 *****.

That's a nice looking box, good job on the carpeting. I wish I had pics of my first box and carpeting attempt. It was pathetic.

i believe its an old and a new G2, they are both G2's just different dust caps which makes me think one is older.

Ah ok. Well then I guess that's ok. Normally I would say don't mix subs but if it's just aesthetics, then it doesn't really matter :P

Yeah, unless specs changed from the old version to the new, if that is the problem, then there should be no problem.

OP i would check on that if it is the case.

Indeed. I still personally wouldn't do it just because I don't like the way it looks...but sometimes you just gotta roll with what ya got.
