Im looking for a set of 6x9 to put in my 74 vette. They will be going behind my head in the "trunk space" in a custom box (see pic.) There will be around 6" of room behind the face to work with. They are going to be the only speakers. I dont want to use an amp. I listening mostly to rap so Im looking for bass aswell with clarity. Suggestions...

You will have problems with
A) Getting good bass and clarity from 6x9's on headunit power
B) Getting good 6x9's period
Most people go to 6.5 components up front and a sub in back. Grab a small amp.

I don't have the option of speakers up front, I could run an amp with the speaker if need be. If I went that way, what suggestions would you have...

If you want 6x9's go with Tang Band W69-1042j and give them about 200 watts each.

I would strongly suggest amping them, they will not sound good or produce good bass off the HU.

i swear by alpine and i have just an alpine cda 9886 headunit and type r 6.5 coaxials in front and i ran it directly off HU power for months until i installed a small alpine 4 channel amp and now those type r's scream and actually have bass and they also do NOT distort easily. and i have the factory 6x9's for the rear.

I have a rare set of DD 6x9 componets ...and I think they were the best ever made...but they were very pricey retail was close to $450 a set so there wasn't a market for that high end of a componet set...I'm getting rid of my set I had in my Tacoma for about the price range your looking at....here is a pic showing the motor compared to the stock JBL's I had in my Tacoma

no not really, got to remember vertex is dealer not a distrubtor. Im sorry that you are a distrubtor that is undercutting all the dealers that you sell too, does your manufactures know what you are doing?

yep they do :)
i was speaking retail on the cdt i think woofers sells em cheaper
but i was saying for what they are they are priced 70% more than they are worth not 70% over what they retail at
maxxsonics has a rep on here that comments alot on my posts.
as long as i sell direct i am in no violation at all

LMAO y'all are a trip man... kinda off topic, but thanks for the info on the 6x9" subs... I had no idea that they existed!!! Now I'm thinking about those in the package tray with a 6x9 component set fiberglassed into the c pillars... or sail, panel whatever it is... Also, I notice the guy who started the thread said door speakers aren't an option... u could fiberglass some pods into either the a-pillar, kick panels, or, yes, the doors.... just my .02
