So I've been wanting to make an enclosure with a kerft port for a few months now. I finally get a chance to start building it this past weekend. I've been practicing making the cuts for the keft, to make sure I get the cuts correct before I start building one for show. Yesterday I put the sides up on the box and today I started on my baffle; I finish the cuts and they are perfect. The piece of 3/4" mdf bends with no cracks or nothing. I clue it and tie some screws to hold it in place while it dries before I add resin. looks beautiful, I pick it up and carry it to the box to test fit....S.O.B I started the keft too early.:verymad: The front baffle is about 2.5" too short (sorry for the sucky pics)...I couldn't believe it. Perfect cuts and I screwed up on the measurements. Not too upset about it tho, I was using some scrap materials from a previous build, :) Anyone have any advice for next time?

Measure twice cut once?

I did, but I was guessing how the keft would end up....:crap:

I'll try again tomorrow I may have one more piece of mdf lying around. Otherwise it's off to home depot....

Maybe leave a few inches of excess on the side without the kerf then trim it once you know exactly how much you need...

Good point. I thought I tried that, but I must have miscalculated it somewhere

Alright, so I took another stab at it today. It not going to win any beauty contest, but I have the measurements down and I'm ready for my next build....box for a dd1008 I picked up from xxxbasshead...oh yeah. Hopefully I get it next week. Anyone know the box specs for this sub?

Looks good. Thats why it's nice to use sketch-up because you can get exact measurements

It not going to win any beauty contest,

..Better hope the non kerfed port wall dont blow off. Split MDF = no good. Do you Pilot, And countersink the screw holes?

could have just extended the straight part to reach the side wall instead of doing it over. But you got more practice. Only did a few kerfs before the novelty wore off...

I normally pilot and countersink, but this was a quick freebie build for a guy with some **** poor subs. Doubt they will hurt the box expecially with 4 screws and clue on that wall...

I did, just cut another piece to fill the difference and I will place a second 1/2" baffle on it if he complains. It was hard at first to see how it would cuve, but once I did it and got it right the processes doesn't seem that hard..
