THIS

I see a lot of people posting their fancy boxes but nobody wants to post up a guide on how to do it :crap:

I really have no problem sharing. Sanding is key...

start by filling all voids this finish will show even the smallest imperfection.
sand w/ 100 grit to smooth all the bondo.
sand w/ 120
sand w/ 150
sand w/ 220
sand w/ 800
primer coat "black"
sand w/ 800
1st coat "black"
sand w/ 800
2nd coat
sand w/ 800
3rd coat
sand w/ 800
final coat..

I do all my sanding w/ an orbital sander so it takes alot of the work out of this. I couldnt imagine how difficult this would be without it...
I also have a greco spray setup and spray booth so that helps...using sherwin williams paint. will prob finish w/ a clear topcoat after logos go on...

DROOOOOL!

nice job man! I am a huge fan of piano finish.

You would do 300 bucks for the paintjob alone or that includes the box building? If so thats good price, I ll keep you in mind for my next box :)

this would look **** in my explorer :)

If $300 is for box and painted, that's not bad.
It looks very good!

Where in GA are you?

thanks for all the kind words.

300 for everything. shipping is extra. I cut parts on cnc so cutting/assembly goes very fast. sanding/painting is the time consuming part.

I am in North Georgia. on exit 137 on 85 about 50 mins north of atlanta.

I agree it looks nice. Piano finish? not quite. Still too many waves and it is not sanded straight. I am going by the posted pics.
To get a flawless finish, you would need to finish with 1500 grit wet/dry, then 2000 wet dry, followed by maching rubbing compound and then machine buffing. Also a random sander is ok to get the rough out, by a straight line block plane will level it and make it true.
Probly not worth the hassle for a box, unless it was in a show car or something But still, one of the top 3 boxes i've seen posted here.

How durable is a finish like that?
