here is a new build log of my ****. just got the door panels started, and took a few pics. i still need to arrange them a bit different so they are not so close to the seat.

just got my Soundigital 16kw amp.

got all 8 mb quart 6 1/2s and tweets for up front

have 4 sets of mb quart 5 1/4 with tweets on each side of the box in fiberglassed pods that form to the shape of the van.

2 4125 mb quart 1000W 4 channel amps running my mids and highs.

4 custom built konaki 18s in 30 cubes with port tuned to 27 hz

11 135Ahr batteries, 2 runs of 4/0 from the alt to the battery bank.

200Amp externally regulated 12-18 volts alt.

8 guage remote with failsafe circuit breaker and toggled to the main remote off the head unit which can be switched to just the circuit breaker (in case i put my amp in protect while doing my run i can just switch off the remote and turn it back on and have my amp running within 5 sec.)

2 layers of sound deadner stacked on the doors and another layer behind the door panels.

did a 155.2 legal with my old amps 2 hifonic goliaths at 43 hz

hmm.... I would have figured that 30 cubes would be a little bigger than that. But then again I guess from my big screen the box looks small... Just saying. it looks more like about 15 cubes from my view. those boxes are about the same space as my setup. What are the specs on those boxes deminsions etc... And honestly your going to have an issue with recharging those batts even with a 200 amp alt. just saying. Also with doing a circuit breaker in the remote wire are you not going to have an issue with the remote voltage... And why would your amp go into protection? what is the coil setup on those subs?

the two boxes together yeild 30 cubes, 15 in each box.the guy holding the box in the pic is 6'4" amd 300lbs. so that box looks small to him. and trust me. the box works perfect. i allready had that box smashing those subs with 2 hifonic goliaths 5k. and i did a 155.2 sealed legal on the dash and a 156.3 in the kick.

the van keeps a good charge going to all 11 batteries and i'm sure i could use another alternator. so later i'll get one.

left readout is the rear batteries and the right is the front battery

the dash is my flash drive and remote from the stereo toggle. this one allows the remote from my stereo to work normally. i turn this one off and revert to the circuit breaker for competing in case i put my amp into protect. I usually push my amp to its limit and gone into protect in the lane before and that ***** when your run is over and you didnt score.

believe thats 12.3 for the subs in each of the two enclosures with 2.7 for port. cant remember and i dont feel like measuring. maybe tomarro i'll check.

i'll show the material. and how i wrapped it. its wrather easy believe it or not. just when your going big like this you have a lot of dry time and materials and actual fiber glass is needed.

i started with a stretchy material. like a kids blanket type material(fleece). just a plain cloth thats a little fuzzy. it holds the resin good.

1.) get a base form ( like the mdf i originally had on the doors to start),
2.) set up your speaker pod, (the mdf ring angled and supported behind)
3.) take a piece of fleece and stretch it over the top around the back side,
use a staple gun and staple it into the back side after you stretched it over your pod on the front and pulled it tight.
4.) once its all tight and your happy with the attachment, placement you can mix up some resin and hardner and start soaking the fleece all the way through and let dry, one more coat will make it really stiff.

you might not even need fiberglass.

12-28-2009, 12:55 AM
I was hoping you would show pics of how you wrapped the pods and fiberglassed them direction is weird in my opinion but it is different. I need midbass in my car, unfortunatly i only have 5.25 i know i need to upgraded to 6.5 but do i have to do pods and get an enclosure for them to sound good or do they have mids that do good in free air in the door. Just lookin at my options.

Build looks nice, no clutter or argument, looking forward to seeing this van next show!!! :)

you could also do some dome midranges. And get a 3 way passive xover. use the midrange section. I know that audiopipe makes a 3 way passive xover. for pretty cheap. I've used a few and the dont sound bad.

here's a link to a few dome midranges.

deadener doesnt really matter (infact it reflects back waves even more inside door panels) I would seal them up cuz it would be just like "free airing" them into your door panels if left open.

i hooked up the sd16k soundigital and there was terrible feedback and engine whine when the mids and subs are all on.

now when the mids amps are disconnected and only the 16k hooked up there is no feed back and works.

when the sd16k is disconnect the mids and tweets sound fine.

i have a kenwood head unit that i think is the problem. but i have to find the ground loop problem first before i install and leave that big amp in.

and i layed half way into my bass knob and that amp is freakish loud. kinda surprized me!

do you know why they use bigger dustcaps???? it helps the cone from flexing from being overpowered! I'll bet you that those subs dont see the first show of the year LOL
so when r u going to hit the meter so we can see the numbers?

hey someone pm me the prices on that 16kd, I'm looking for an amp like this. or two smaller amps. OR if anyone knows prices on the stetsom amps as well. I am going to get a big system going, and I'd rather run one massive amp or two pretty big amps strapped, I'll be hopefully running, 8 to 12 Atomic 15's. either manhatan or something like 4 apxx 18's or something along those lines. so, I need something like close to 8 to 12,000 rms. anyone know of any amps that will be capable of handeling those powerloads for under 1500 a piece lmk. Thanks.

yeah i know, the gain may be good, my sub sonic is at 40 hz tho, so maybe i could lower it a bit, havnt tried a test tone but the song i played was at 47hz or so. but the higher bass notes still seem louder by a bunch, especially when it chokes you. so i'm hoping the test tones will be louder, especially after i seal of the box.

I have no doubt in my mind a test tone will be louder. the TL needs a 3 sec tone for it to read fully and when you hit the res freq of your van it will be even louder. when i had my wall in the back it would peak at 47hrtz then when i moved it forward i started out at 45 hrtz and made my way up too mid 50hrtz all i can say is wow the score just kept going up and up and up LOL
you'll be surprized when you change freq
