View Full Version : 156+ SPL - Gain Log

sundownz
12-21-2009, 05:10 PM
I am going to track my gains from here... so far 156.1 dB @ 53 Hz with the new Nightshade v.2 15" woofer in the Jeep with two SAZ-4500Ds on it, each at 0.25 ohms DCR.

Electrical consists of six Stinger SPV-70 Batteries and an Excessive Amperage 225-amp alternator.

Sorry -- no power clamp results yet... someone is borrowing my clamp and I cannot get in touch with them to get it back.

A few pictures of how it sits now :

I am going to track any changes that I make that gain SPL. I plan to change the batteries to stronger SP-1700s and do a few other things... perhaps try a different box as this one is 3 years old now :)

Sweet, no get that down to 156 @ 46 :)

sundownz
12-21-2009, 05:13 PM
Get that down to 46hz @ 156 :)

If I had a second woofer I would, I currently only have one NS v.2 motor to play with... my dual sub box peaks @ 47 Hz.

My single box peaks @ 53 hz so that is where it will stay for this testing.

Yah, I plan to try an aero-port box... also want to try this sub built as an 18" to get a bit more displacement.

I like it can loud as **** but I want to see more... Real world testing I would say.. like the power people would be recommend to throw at these.. not 8k+.. and at a nice freq.. Not saying this isn't impressive as it is.. but as much it is a build log its advertisement and me being a possible customer would like to see what this bad boy does in daily or even just at lower freq..

This log is for SPL competitors -- you will see all of the other testing when people start getting them.

If you have seen / heard / read about the v.1 Nightshade this is alot like the v.1 except with significantly higher thermal power handling and lower distortion due to more linear stroke and significant steps to create linear / reduced inductance.

I don't do much else in my Jeep except SPL burps since every time I play music I tear up the vehicle -- I'd like to reach my SPL goal before destroying the Jeep after all :) Although, I have bass raced 149.9 with this box before with the "Monster" prototype which is a dB quieter and handles less power than the v.2 Nightshade... rewired the amps at 1 ohm each.

They are not for sale yet... next few months and they will be. I'm doing my usual testing before release.

In any event -- for that kind of inquiry e-mail me so I can keep this as somewhat of a log *laughs*

I am going to try the first thing tomorrow... rather than two 4500s @ 0.25 each I will try four 3500s @ 0.5 each... my impedance rise is fairly significant so this may or may not gain anything after rise.

Wanted to do this today but ran out of time.

sundownz
12-22-2009, 01:26 PM
We will see if I gain extra SPL even after the additional impedance rise of running these 3500s @ 0.5 vs the 4500s @ 0.25

The coils are an actual Dual 1.0 DCR coil -- not a 0.7 -- so I am writing actual DCR not Z.

Not quite as loud -- my rise is pretty high so I lost power with more amps at a higher load:

http://www.sundownaudio.com/misc/protos/Nightshade_v2/4x3500D_12v/CIMG3245.JPG

My rise is usually 3x or so.

---

Now... if I had four 4500s I think it would be another story... unfortunately they sold out and not even I get to keep some.

Next step... go back to the two 4500s and swap to my Stinger SP-1700s. Also planning to put some of my interior back in... I suspect my Jeep was louder with the plastic side panels in... but I removed them for my dampener log.

Jacob I've been able to lower box rise by adding 45's to shrink box volume. If they arlready exist cut bigger ones and put over the first ones.

Very impressive for a single 15!

I bet you could do 51's musically over 30 secs. :)

In for progress pics ;)

I'm not going to do any more bass race for a while -- too hard on the vehicle. I have goals to reach for SPL burps before I destroy the vehicle completely. I've already hit 149.9 at an nSPL event on the money (broke out at the start, though) for a 30-second bass-race run.

This is an SPL log not a bass race log :)

I got the new batteries in tonight... pics tomorrow.

I hit 155.7 right as one amp went into protect with the panels OUT and the amps still on the sides. Impedance seems to have changed with the amp location... going to try sliding the box around.

hey jacob if your gaining some man thats good but have you tried different size boxes with less port aera or more port area. sometimes you have to find that perfect port size that gets you that score your chasing. but a 156 on one 15 on a 14v setup isn't bad at all man. gl with what ya doing man looking to see a 60 with some more work.

Jacob me personaly would try to open the port. Or cut the box vol down depending on rise due to the fact that you clame that you get louder by adding more vol by taking out the side panels you go up this is just like opening the door to let more air in the cabin. witch in return alows the box to pull more air in and out the port easyer. good luck on the gole that would be crazy # with one 15.
