View Full Version : Box ?'s for 12" L5

Well im getting ready to build a box for a 12" L5 and had a couple of ?'s. It's going to be 32 wide 15 tall and 16 deep. I figured a 3" port and a 14" second wall port that gives me 2.7 cubes tuned at 33, port length of 31.5 and 40.5" of port. Does this sound about right? I figured a wider port would be better but it sky rockets the tuning and not sure how to get it back down.

Try increasing the length of the port

yea but i dont want the port going to almost the right side. Didnt think it would work best that way

the bigger the port, the smaller internal space, higher the tuning. That is if you try to increase the port after you've already figured out numbers. how much port area?

Well with a 3" wide port and the second measurement wall of 14 it's 40.5" of port. Which is about right port length is 31.5

isnt it a tad to big for a 12"? Wouldnt it be better to go for a box around 2 cu ft?

oh the inches confused me lol. should be 40.5"^2 that helps me out. should be enough for that sub.

Well kickers specs are 1.75 min and 3.25 max. So I figured this was right around the middle. So u guys think the 3" port will be fine? And 31.5 is good for the port length?

bump all agree this should be fine?

Well I am building a box for a guy at work. He has two American pro ws-9012 600 watts yea I kno they are crappy as they get but its what he has. They are currently in a garbage band pass box. And I figured if I get em in a ported it should sound way betteror should I go sealed?. He is not looking for a heavy hitting systemlets be honest its just not gonna happen. They are being powered by a small mtx thunder 4 channel. But anyways on to the ?s I am planning on building it 41" wide 14" high, and 15" deep, single chamber with a 3" wide slot port. It looks to be around 3 cubes tuned at 32hz. Would this be adequate cubes for the 2 12s as the web site does not say and I cant find the info anywhere. I am thinking subs up and port backor should I fire both back. Does this sound about right? Any ideas or suggestions? Thanx a ton guys

kicker subs , especially a square that is the same or bigger cone area than the next size up round model need alot of airspace.
