Yeah I wanted to port them but I doubt I'll be able to. There is NO room for ports to be vertical slots, and I cant do horizontal slots on the bottom because i'm going to have to shape the glass around a support truss on the bottom of the trunk. So I could do them on the top, but it seems that would look pretty bad, and as you said the w6's do fantastic sealed so I guess I'll keep it simple this time. Not to mention I'm not the most skilled glasser around.

Hater, yes. I hate ignorant, bigoted chumps. Dude builds a box which is fundamentally WRONG, and assures people to "trust him" it's okay. At my count there are four maybe five people who share your sentiment about me, and I'm fine with that, because that's a fraction of the people who thought/wished cockjoneser was dead.

Hey question. For masking the carpet for a trunk mold, Has anyone ever used tinfoil? I've been suggested it. I normally just use painter's tape. I also think I'll experiment with the green masking paper.

I foil and tape edges of foil around. Put a few trashbags underneath, works the best to make sure no leaks happen and get f-glass on ur carpet/ metal etc

I'm considering whether or not to make it go over the hump or just step it off in the back. Reguarless, i'm going to mold it to the hump that way i have a little wiggle room on airspace and I may be able to take up an inch or 2 less trunk space.

cotjones
12-27-2009, 11:46 PM
Funny you should mention that, I was originally going with fiberglass to maximize airspace, but in some later calculations, that mold design was going to push 4 or 5 cubes. I've never liked the sound of fiberglass enclosures compared to MDF, and I had more room than I thought, Not to mention the Fiberglass would've probably run me around 200-300. and a sheet of mdf is about 20 bucks, So i've scrapped the F-glass idea for a while at least, going with an MDF Box with less airspace. Already built it over the holiday, posting pics...

Thanks guys, yeah sry to entice you with the fiberglass, but like the guy above said, it would be 95% the same box, so it ended up being a little pointless to do the F-glass. I may Eventually do F-glass but the MDF works for now. Painting now. I think i'm going with a flat black, If it doesn't match the interior though, i may end up repainting

Here it is finished and installed, There is one tiny chip in the paint i'll have to fix.

Also the box was designed to accommodate a 1000/1 on the rack in the back, the one I have for it needs to be sent in to JL for repair.

So bassically i'm keeping the same 500 watt amp on it for now, and I have to bring the box about 3 inches forward to fit it in there. So when the Right amp is installed, the box will scoot back flush with the trunk interior walls.

The other option is to cut off the back brace, its fairly unnecessary with the current design of the box, and would give me a space for an amp 26x13x4 (way bigger than any amp I should put in there.

One item of concern, The box is about 2.5 cubes. It's a little too big. I'm wondering if I can put some braces in to cut a little airspace down.

Looks sharp!

2.5 cubes for three of those is too much?

A little, about half a cube too big, but I think I actually like it due to the increased output out of the only 500watts going to it for now. We'll see when I get the amp back. I don't want to push them into mechanical failure with the box being to big. The foam surrounds on the w6 are a little sensitive in the wrong box.

Thanks,

It's called "The Black Box" by turtle wax, and it is specifically for black cars.

It's a 3 part system with a pre-wax/conditioner, Black carnauba wax, And black detail spray. It will all turn your hands black though!!! but it does come off.

I'll get some more pics tomorrow when the sun is shining so you can see the finish better

really, all it is is a colored paint sealer and wax, it buffs the top layer of paint smooth to get rid of swirls and then seals and waxes the surface, then you buff with the black detail spray to get all the residue off and give it a shine. My boss actually essentially makes the same thing but in blue for his car. You can stain any wax, But you can obviously see the marketing drawback to producing many multi color waxes. Black is one that more than any other color needs it because swirls show so much in it.

Yup, a bunch of BS that build is....just what I said @ the beginning. With your immense experience, which no one on earth can touch, I'm SHOCKED that with a hatchback, the woofers are firing back, and not up????? You should really keep your mouth shut and listen and learn. You've already proven with your previous posts how knowledgeable you are so don't lash out at me because you are butt-hurt about the prospect that your (what was it 4 years?) experience ripping off hood-rats in some ghetto installation bay, didn't give you any more knowledge than retard 15 year old. No one is impressed with the fact that you can repeatedly spew off wrong information.

:fyi: Backfiring is ALMOST always the best option unless there is a factor preventing this, score another knowledge point for you, and I imagine you are just too stupid to understand that my HU is a stock unit... And my "Factories" are a 400watt 8 speaker Rockford Fosgate system. (150watts to the unused factory sub channel.) Quite simply, they are more than adequate at the present time.

PLEASE OH PLEASE give us some more of your knowledge, i'm collecting it, here are a few more of your shining jewels....

there is no cancellation due to woofer size exclusively.

The right way to do car audio is 2 channels. (2 woofers, 2 tweeters)

If you aren't doing it that way, you are doing it wrong.

And working at 3 different installers in 4 years means you are a car audio wizard. Not that you **** donkey pein and get fired often.

Seriously just GTFO and don't come back... kthankx

For now, the next item on the agenda is figuring out a way to stop my rear view mirror from pointing at the floor every time the bass hits.

Also i'm getting a passenger SRS warning light and the passenger seatbelt and airbag turn off lights don't work properly, I'm guessing that is a fuse, but not sure. I was looking through the manual and just found out it has side curtain and side seat airbags!

Oh well see I bought the Mito-interphace so i could still use the factory amp how it was used in the factory setup. (the front 2 channels power the front door woofers.) Honestly though, It wasn't very necessary, I had plenty of power to spare on the front channels of the Aftermarket HU, In fact, I SMOKED the factory tweeters. So in hind site I probably would've been fine bypassing the factory amp all together. If you do that though, you are going to need to buy or make your own crossovers. I found out the hard way, the signals were crossover'ed at the HU so if you hook them up to an aftermarket unit they are getting the full spectrum.

I hope that makes sense. lol

Also the most noticable weak point of my system is the front door woofers (attached to the factory amp.) I have the pre-outs set as low as possible, but it still sounds like they are clipping all to hell

yeah see (at least on mine) the door speaker is just a midbass, and there is a tweeter up front, but instead of being run on the same channel with a crossover like most comps, they are run on separate channels.
