Why is it that every person on here all of a sudden wants 4th order bandpasses? I think I've seen more requests for those designs in the past 2 weeks than I have since the beginning of the semester. Did I miss something? You can't just throw anything into a bandpass enclosure, so what gives?

Because they make da moofas go BOOM as opposed to the less pronounced but equally intolerable "boom."

I didn't ask for obvious statements; I was asking a question. Your post is completely obvious and at the same time completely irrelevant.

 Yep. Why take a speaker that was made to have a super flat frequency response at just about all frequencies, then put it in a box that makes it have a peaky frequency response at a few frequencies?

Because if the person who designed it knows what they are doing and designed it to not have a big peak, it wont.

This is true though, I got like 10 4th order requests. Im about to make a thread because I cant keep track of all the ones in my PM box.

To add on to the irrelevant posts...

When I first started messing around with car audio (ordered everything from Crutchfield lol) I got a Q-logic bandpass box for an Infinity Reference 10" sub... and I thought it sounded great. :crap:

This is true though, I got like 10 4th order requests. Im about to make a thread because I cant keep track of all the ones in my PM box.Even if they know what they're doing, the BP enclosure does not have the same bandwidth as a ported let alone a sealed enclosure. They just don't, nor are they designed to do so. Both have 4th order rolloffs, but the ported enclosure will have a flat frequency response for longer than the BP. That's just enclosure theory and it's because BPs grant you a greater output for albeit a smaller passband they are used when people just want loud. No SQL or SQ person would use one because they aren't musical at all sub bass frequencies. :)

And you keep getting so many cause I keep referrering them to you, mobes, 80 and imamp3pimp

I am biased, however, as I absolutely detest the sound and performance of every bandpass enclosure I've ever heard and that includes some from great BP designers on here. I just hate the sound, so take what I say with a grain of salt. :)

as a noob here who at first was like "i wanna be loud" it sounded great, but thinking about it afterwards its not worth it for me actually thinking about it now that i bought my first sub i am thinking about going sealed for a flatter response... would that be blasphlemy with a dd 3518?

Good question. Maybe everyone is like Tigre & Bunny and they like the cars that go BOOM!

Really though I've seen some questions about them, so perhaps everyone is just hopping back on the bandpass bandwagon.

So, it takes more time, money, and effort... only works for a small portion of subs... can yield some gnarly ripple within it's passband... but MAY give more output.

I'm jumpin' on the "band"wagon! :graduate:

(For those who didn't catch the sarcasm, PV summed it up elegantly.)

Truth, however every cloud has a silver lining.......all these guys know exactly what their doing in reference to these types of boxes, so at least we know some good information is getting out there :D
